A pet friendly property ideal for couples and is part of the historic buildings of Cerne Abbey, formed as a Benedictine House in 987 AD.

This unique and enchanting property is part of the historic buildings of Cerne Abbey, formed as Benedictine House in 987 AD, overlooking the abbey courtyard with large gardens nearby. The abbey itself is privately owned, and guests can enjoy the grounds and wander freely. The property is in the pretty village of Cerne Abbas, famed for its dominating chalk carving of the Cerne Giant - thought to be carved in the hillside some 1500 years ago. Tucked away within the beauty of the Dorset Hills, miles of lovely walks can be enjoyed, including the village trail. Puddletown, Tolpuddle and Thomas Hardy’s picturesque Piddle Valley are within easy reach. Travelling further afield are miles of sandy beaches and some of Dorset’s Jurassic coastline. Shop and three pubs serving excellent food, 100 yards.

It is beautifully and tastefully furnished in the style of the period. It is a little cottage downstairs but has been imaginatively equiped. Upstairs is spacious with wonderful views. It is a very peaceful setting ideal for a quiet retreat. It is only 2 mins to walk into the village although a longer route to drive. Beautiful countryside around and many places to visit.

The freezer seems a little unnecessary when perhaps a larger fridge freezer would be more appropriate for short term lets & the sofa/chair whilst very much in the character of the cottage, are not the most comfortable. Having said that the character of the owners, property, village & history of all 3, made our Christmas week unforgettable . Just sad we didn't have a dog as that seems a prerequisite for Cerne Abbas & its environs. For info the Boxing Day Morris Dancing ,followed by a mass playing of squeeze boxes in a pub overflowing with mulled wine & bonhomie [The Giant] almost equalled the gourmet Christmas Day lunch in The New Inn !
