Set in the grounds of Thorpe Hall Estate a 10 minute drive from Barnard Castle, a perfect holiday retreat close to the River Tees.

Nestled in a truly rural location, Chapel Cottage offers guests somewhere to ‘get away from it all’ and relax in front of the open fire on a cold winters night. Set amidst the Thorpe Hall Estate, which is believed to have been built in the 1300’s by the Wycliffe family. Later it was sold by the Ingleby’s to Christopher Wilkinson, their former tenant, in 1743. After years of neglect the current owners saw something special in the near derelict building and turned it into something quite magnificent, changing an old, worn house, into a beautiful, traditionally interior designed home. Now guests are welcome to wander the beautiful orangery and garden, and admire the delightful work of Arne Maynard, a Chelsea Flower Show gold medallist, by arrangement with the owner. This holiday home provides guests with a hint of history and a dash of elegance, ensuring a magnificent stay awaits.
Sleeping up to four guests, Chapel Cottage, adjoining the main hall, is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy a holiday filled with luxuries that will leave you feeling like royalty. This holiday cottage provides idyllic accommodation for friends and couples alike.
Boasting beautiful sunsets and delectable views, spend some time on the patio with your loved one, indulging in a glass of wine and immersing yourselves in the sounds of the trickling River Tee flowing by.
The light and bright living room makes the perfect place to just simply relax in. Grab a film from the small library provided and snuggle up with the open fire radiating the room. Alternatively, why not head out and enjoy a quiet drink at the local pub.
The two comfortable bedrooms have been well designed to ensure a great night’s sleep awaits guests. Cosy beneath the soft and luxurious linen and make the most of this tranquil setting.
Chapel Cottage will leave you feeling refreshed, relaxed and rejuvenated, and has everything you could need for a stress-free break away.
