A magical setting close to the River Tees and Teesdale Way, an ideal base for visiting award winning gardens at Thorpe Hall.

Set amidst the grounds of Thorpe Hall Estate, this is one of three charming properties (Refs IWF, MPR and MVP) that offer the perfect holiday retreat. Chapel Cottage, which adjoins the main hall, enjoys wonderful views of the gardens and parkland, whilst Corner Cottage and Greystones sit close by as a pair. With beautiful sunsets, the River Tees flowing close by and the Teesdale Way, this is a truly magical setting. Guests are welcome to view the lovely gardens designed by Chelsea gold medallist 2012, Arne Maynard, at the award-winning Thorpe Hall by arrangement with the owner. A local pub and farm shop providing good home-made food is ½ mile. Just 10 minutes by car, the market town of Barnard Castle offers tea rooms, shops, galleries, markets and the Bowes Museum. Raby Castle and High Force Waterfall are some of the many local attractions. Durham, York, Harrogate and the Gateshead Metro Centre are approximately one hour’s drive. Shop 1/4 mile.

Made very welcome by the owners -- wine, milk biscuits etc left for us. I would certainly recommend this cottage to anyone.

I would make this cottage an annual event! It is peaceful, tranquil, with superb walking. Lots to do locally. A very well equipped comfortable cottage.

The cottage was excellent except the central heating was rather eccentric and seemed to be on when we weren't there. It was never possible to get more than a few inches of hot water into the bath which at one time had been one of those jacuzzi baths and had uncomfortable little holes all over the base of it. There was an unpleasant smell each time the plug was pulled to let out the water. There was no bread board or tin. Only one pint glass. The cottage was spotlessly clean and the location was stunning. So I wouldn't go there again unless I knew the central heating and the plumbing had been sorted.

This was all round the best holiday cottage we have stayed in. We loved the location - right on the Teesdale way with great vistas of countryside and many walks, epic cycle climbs and attractions nearby - Dales, Pennines, Durham etc It was so spacious (so useful with teenagers along) warm, clean and stunningly bright. Well stocked with not too precious kitchen equiptment and crockery, with very thoughtful bounty of easter eggs, wine, cake and pantry items for our holiday break. The owners popped over immediately when we had a very minor heating hiccup - couldn't have been more helpful in resolving it immediately. Can't recommend highly enough and will be back
