Surrounded by beautiful countryside and off the beaten track, Courtyard Cottage is the ideal location for a romantic break. It is situated in the stable courtyard next to Claydon House, a magnificent 18th century country house, now owned by the National Trust.
This elegantly furnished cottage is all on one level and if your heart is set on something relaxed and peaceful, then you need look no further. There is a bright and airy living room and a kitchen with all the necessary amenities, and to help you settle in you will find a welcome pack on your arrival.
If you would like to spend a leisurely day exploring the Claydon Estate, you will find plenty to occupy your time. You may wish to enjoy a gentle stroll in the beautiful historic gardens and take afternoon tea in the estate’s tea rooms. Explore the Grade I listed Claydon House, the ancestral home of the Verney family since the 1600s, and where Florence Nightingale spent much of her time in her later years. At the end of the day, return to Courtyard Cottage and relax in the private enclosed garden before retiring to the comfortable bedrooms.
There are stunning scenic trails and footpaths in the area and many start from the doorstep. Discover the beautiful Aylesbury Vale with its gently rolling countryside or the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There is a bike store for guests who love to cycle and you will find that Claydon is on Route 51 of the National Cycle Network.
The small market town of Buckingham is 8 miles away with its Georgian architecture, large green areas, tree lined roads and the River Great Ouse running through the centre. Bletchley Park is 18 miles away where you can discover the story behind the British codebreakers during World War II.

Charming cottage in a wonderful location. The cottage is clean, comfortable and well equipped with appealing furnishing. Although ‘in the middle of nowhere’ being a National Trust property there is the benefit of a house to visit, a café across the Courtyard and wonderful grounds to walk in. Extremely peaceful after hours. We found a good choice of dog friendly pubs to eat in and an invaluable co-op in a nearby village. There are several art and craft studios to tempt you to part with your money and even courses to attend ( which was the purpose of our stay and excellent ). Beware of enormous potholes in roads nearby. The worst I’ve seen anywhere. I’d recommend this cottage and have already booked again so that I can attend another art course in this very special setting!

I’ve never slept on such hard beds. I liked it but my wife started to have back problems near the end. Her bed was actually harder than mine so we switched after the first night as I woke up with a sore back too. Just saying. Otherwise everything was great. The welcoming cakes were very thoughtful and we really enjoyed them. Thanks for the excellent and friendly service.

Cottage spacious comfortable and warm in kitchen, lounge and bedroom. wifi excellent. minor problem, we were unlucky that the weather change on the first two days with snow, low temperature and biting wind so toilet and bathroom freezing as located by front door and no heating in hall and inadequate heating in bathroom and toilet. I assume in the summer this would not be a problem. We really enjoyed our stay and the property was ideal for the places we wanted to visit.

We had a super time staying at Courtyard Cottage. The place was comfortable and warm, even through a particularly cold snap. The owners had even decorated a real Xmas tree in the lounge for us, which was a particular delight. It is very rural, so will be a walker's paradise. We would happily stay here again!
