The Cotswold Barn is fully en-suite and has an open fire for those cold evenings making it perfect at any time of year.

These barn conversions are situated on the fringe of the charming Cotswold village of Ampney Crucis. Immaculately presented, they lie in the grounds of a 500-acre country estate, part of which is accessible to guests, just two miles from the ancient Roman town of Cirencester. The area is popular with walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The Long Barn (ref NTE) and The Cotswold Barn (ref NTF) are perfect Gloucestershire holiday homes to be enjoyed at any time of year. The Cotswold Water Park, with its many water based activities, is within close proximity. Just a little further afield is the Regency Spa town of Cheltenham, offering many visitor attractions, an extensive range of shops, restaurants and the Gold Cup horse racing. There is also the National Arboretum, situated at Westonbirt, being home to one of the finest tree collections in the world. Oxford, Burford, Stow-on-the-Wold and Lechlade are all easily accessible. I take care in choosing the properties we visit because we are all getting on in years these days and two of our party are disabled. On paper this property looked excellent for their use but unfortunately there were concrete stairs between the living areas and the bedroom corridor. This caused great difficulty for our disabled friends. The wetrooms in their bedrooms sounded ideal but in fact were extremely awkward. There were no hand rails for them to hold on to and every time they used the shower the towels on the towel rails got very wet. I appreciate that the property was not advertised as being disabled friendly and I will not book another place in future without finding out all about it before hand. Also, the kitchen equipment was poor, the dinner service for 24 people was excellent, there were 42 stemmed wineglasses, 15 champagne flutes 20 small glasses and only 7 mugs three of which were chipped. I drew this to their attention and was told that the house does not provide mugs only Denby tea cups and saucers to match the dinner service, the mugs were left by previous occupants. Surely nowadays everyone uses a mug for coffee etc? Also, the saucepans and oven trays were very poor, some rusty and the ovens themselves were not clean. On the plus side all the bedlinen was very nice and when I pointed out to the staff that our two disabled friends would not be able to climb the mezzanine staircase to view the TV they went to a great deal of trouble to obtain a 25 metre aerial cable so that the TV could be brought downstairs.

The Cotswold Barn provided us with a comfortable, well equipped base to explore the Cotswolds. It met the needs of the whole family; teenagers, parents, grandparents and even the dog.

We thoroughly enjoyed our break and would just make some constructive comments. The kitchen could benefit from a few extras like egg cups, mugs, small dishes and wine glasses not flutes. The rugs were a bit hazardous especially for our elderly guests. All considered we had an enjoyable and relaxing stay and please accept our comments with the best of intentions. We are planning to return next year.
