Dovercourt is a very old town listed within the Domesday Book of 1086, though the nearby historic port of Harwich is better known. Dovercourt Hall is a timber framed building with a wealth of exposed beams and an inglenook fireplace. The property was built around 1600, and is a Grade II listed building with further additions later in the 17th century. Originally built as a farmhouse, the surrounding land was farmed until the 1950s, and is now set in an acre of grounds with a natural pond. During the long history of the property, further renovations were carried out during 2015 which lead to the completion of Dovercourt Hall Cottage.

This delightful property, one of a pair, is adjacent to the owner’s home and comprises four bedrooms, a spacious living room with open fire and an open plan kitchen/dining area. Decorated and furnished to a very good standard, guests can enjoy up-to-date amenities but still admire the character and charm of this historic cottage. The large garden is the ideal place to sit out and enjoy a lovely summer’s evening with friends and family, hosting a barbecue and enjoying relaxing in the seating area.

Enjoy either an award-winning beach by the leading lighthouses or walk in the opposite direction onto the natural foreshore, both are just over the road across the playing field from the cottage. Also within a 5-minute walk from the cottage is a large range of activities, swimming pool, gym, squash and badminton courts, plus seasonal activities include roller skating, a putting green, a boating lake and skateboard park. Walk to historic Harwich, visit the Mayflower Project where a full-size replica of the famous ship that took the pilgrim fathers to America is being built or the Redoubt Napoleonic Fort and other museums. See a movie in the Electric Palace, one of the oldest cinemas in the country, built in 1911. From the Ha’penny pier visitors can take the foot ferry to Felixstowe. Clacton or Walton with their piers and traditional seaside amusements are within 15 miles journey. Also well worth a visit is Colchester, 20 miles away, the oldest recorded town in Britain with plenty of history, a large castle and shopping, as well as a zoo. Constable Country, Ipswich and pretty Suffolk villages all are within 35 minutes’ drive. The nearest golf club is less than 1½ miles away, or Frinton-on-Sea, which has two golf courses, is 14 miles way. Beach 200 yards. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

Spacious living room with open fire, French doors and wooden floor. Spacious kitchen/dining room with electric range (for cooking). Utility. Shower room with toilet. The cottage is very well-equipped, and very comfortable. It is ideal for family get- togethers with a large, well- man tainted, pretty garden. The beach is only a short walk and is ideal for small children to play safely. Even the weather was superb for our early, summer break and, for this reason, we did not feel the need to explore the surrounding area.

As stated a grade 2 listed building as such we should have realised the floors in the upstairs section are very uneven and particularly difficult if you are elderly, the stairs too are indeed a challenge as steep and slanting and curved I feel when marketing this property it would be fair to mention it as at the moment no mention, I managed to complete the holiday but it truly was a challenge, also no working TV in the 1st floor bedroom, otherwise a lovely property, with good heating and facilities.

We visited Dovercourt Cottage, from Lincolnshire, with family from South Africa and family from West Sussex. There were 7 of including two children under ten. The cottage was perfect - the beds were comfortable, the three bathrooms meant no queues for showers, and the large table with chairs in the kitchen made for convivial evenings over dinner. Everything we needed - a log burner to thaw us out when we returned from icy walks, a brilliant cooker, and a well equipped kitchen. The welcome pack was most appreciated, and the owners - Jen & Mick, who live next door, were so helpful and welcoming. We would definitely come back - there is so much to see in the area, and we loved visiting Flatford, where the inspiration came to John Constable for the Haywain.

This was a return visit ; we had such a great time in 2016. The cottage has everything we required . It is beautifully decorated for Christmas. The log burner and the general ambiance of this stylishly decorated cottage, with it's thoughtful little touches, is all we needed for a great time. Hopefully we will return next year. Thank you

We absolutely loved this beautiful house., a bit of a hidden gem which is large, incredibly comfortable, and unique. Really well equipped. The garden is amazing. Comfortable beds, great bathrooms and kitchen had all we could have wanted. Lovely comfortable living area too. Everything was perfect. Slight problem with working out the heating was resolved straight away. We couldn't recommend this any more highly. A perfect base for exploring this really fascinating area. Thanks so much!
