Customers’ Choice Award 2016, 2017 & 2018
Brick and flint cottage, surrounded by countryside, a peaceful and romantic retreat for two, Jane Austens’ House easily reached.

Located in a breathtaking setting, completely enveloped in the rolling countryside which is has wildlife in abundance, this attractive, brick and flint holiday cottage makes a romantic and peaceful retreat, ideal for couples and walkers. As the name suggests, Drovers Cottage was formerly a place of rest for drovers (modern day livestock transporters), who travelled hundreds and hundreds of miles with their animals and needed somewhere to rest. The group of fir trees, which still remain to this day, were an easily recognisable landmark even from afar. The fields surrounding the cottage are of archaeological interest, as they were used as Roman camps and often oyster shells can be found, these were brought in barrels from the coast for the Roman warriors to eat, and they tossed the shells into the fields.
Having been totally renovated, Drovers Cottage offers tasteful and well-presented accommodation, and is within easy walking distance to the quaint thatched-roof village, with its shop, beautiful church and two pubs serving good food. This picturesque village is steeped in history, it has a bronze burial in the parish, which dates back to 2000BC. The village was part of the Royal Manor, belonging first to King Alfred the Great, then later William the Conqueror, which is recorded in the Domesday Book.
Within easy reach are the South Downs, Portsmouth, Winchester Cathedral, Southampton with its maritime history, the New Forest, Chichester, beaches at the Witterings or Hayling Island, the Watercress steam train, Jane Austen’s house, Gilbert White’s house and Birdworld. London is just an hour by train from nearby Petersfield. Seasonal fishing available in a small lake close by. Shops ¼ mile.

Open-plan living/dining room with electric woodburner, kitchen area and tiled floor. First floor: Double bedroom with sloping ceiling. Bathroom with shower attachment and toilet.

Electric woodburner included. Electricity, full gas central heating, bed linen and towels included. Travel cot (suitable for ages up to 18mths). High chair. Freeview TV. DVD. Stereo/CD. Microwave. Washing machine. Dishwasher. Wi-Fi.Telephone (honesty box). Large enclosed garden with patio and furniture. Parking (for 2 cars). No smoking.

We needed a short break and when we found that this cottage was free for a few days when we were able to get away, we booked it straight away. We went just before the "Beast from the East" arrived so were a little apprehensive of the weather. We found the cottage very welcoming on our arrival and were soon settled in taking advantage of the welcome pack. The Cottage is a picture postcard. Everything you could want was provided, you could just turn up with the basics and sit back to enjoy the scenery. We were only here for four days and during this time we didn't use the car at all. Everything is within walking distance. The village is a real gem as is the church. Well worth a walk around. Lisa and Graham are wonderful hosts and nothing was too much trouble, even thawing out the water supply. We did leave a day early but this was purely due to the weather forecast and the cottage being solidly booked so we didn't want to be stranded with a dog. Reading the review book many people visit this cottage time and again. We can understand why. We want to return during better weather but it is fully booked this year so we will have to wait until 2019. Thank you again Lisa and Graham for a lovely break. Carole, David and Libby our little dog.

A delightful country cottage deep in beautiful countryside but close to local village and good amenities. Drovers Cottage was warm in chilly February and very comfortable. I recommend it highly.

While we love our holidays at your cottage we have to say that Friday to Friday is not good for travelling, as the roads are so busy and we had a difficult journey down. The hold-ups were bad and we did not arrive at the cottage till around 5pm on the day, missing two hours that could have been spent there. Could you not go back to Saturday bookings in the future as we are sure other people have had similar problems travelling.

It is a beautiful cottage in a beautiful location which is lovely and quiet and plenty of wildlife to sit and watch with only a 10 minute walk to the picturesque village with two very good pubs and a shop. Also perfect location as you are within half an hour of lots of places to visit, including Portsmouth's famous dockyard.
