This holiday property, a former part of Mendip Hospital, is full of charm and character, with art work and wonderful furnishings throughout.

Dating from 1880, Easel Cottage sits on the highest point of South Horrington village, just outside Wells, affording it a superb viewpoint. Formerly, the cottage was part of the Mendip Hospital, and used as a porter’s lodge and staff quarters. It was originally attached to the main house (currently habited by the cottage owners) by a bridge. Easel Cottage has been lovingly brought back to life without losing its original charm, retaining original doors and windows, with the addition of modern comfort. The main house is the home of the owner’s, and of their gallery business, and the walls of Easel Cottage are adorned with art, making every room unique. It is an art lover’s paradise, providing your own private gallery for the duration of your stay with all of the works available for purchase. On renovating Easel Cottage, the owners have collected together weird and wonderful artefacts including unopened 1960s medication, shoes, Victorian glass and hospital menus.

Beautiful cottage set in amazing grounds. Ellie met us on arrival and showed us around. The cottage had everything we needed including some basic supplies of tea, milk and bread. We had a lovely week exploring the area and further afield as it is in a great location. Would definitely return again.

Really nice cottage, beautifully decorated and appointed, cosy and sylish with great art work. No welcome pack as specified ( assume this has lifes essentials), but a nice plate of danish, make sure you have everything you need to cook with (oil, salt, etc) or nip down the road to Tesco, Waitrose etc, hardly a burden and overall 9/10. Would definatly stay again.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at Easel Cottage and the ambiance was very pleasant but it ought to be pointed out that access is up some steep steps and a gravel path. No problem for the able-bodied but might be a problem for the elderly or infirm. A hand rail would be an excellent addition up the steps. On the plus side we loved being able to play table tennis and there was a constant supply of hot water for washing up (there is also a dishwasher) and showers.
