Ideal for couples or a small family, this converted stable is the perfect retreat for a holiday in the corner of Kent.

Ideal for couples or a small family, this converted stable is the perfect retreat for a holiday in the corner of Kent.

Farthingales is a Grade II listed homestead, based around a 15th-century hall house set in the heart of the Kent countryside. It sits adjacent to the historic village church and on the edge of rolling fields. Two of the property’s outbuildings, The Barn (ref PZV) and The Stables (ref UKC16), have been sensitively converted to provide accommodation which reflect their history, by retaining original features, whilst providing the comforts of modern living such as underfloor heating.

Local attractions include the famous city of Canterbury, with its beautiful cathedral, dominant city walls and an array of boutique shops, bars and restaurants. Enjoy a day trip to France by ferry from Dover to Calais, or by train from Ashford via the Channel Tunnel. Nearby coastal towns in Kent include Broadstairs, famous for its annual Folk Festival, and Whitstable, a charming fishing town with local shops, oyster festivals and pubs right on the beach. London is easily accessible with several high speed train routes from Kent; in under an hour you can enjoy all that the capital has to offer. The Barn (ref PZV) and The Stables (ref UKC16) can be booked together to accommodate up to seven guests. Shops 1½ miles, village pub? and ?restaurant ½ mile.

This is a lovely, warm and welcoming cottage ideally placed to explore the delights of the Kent Coast and countryside. The owner was on-site to greet us and answer any questions. She also left a welcome hamper with essentials and a nice bottle of wine. Parking was immediately adjacent to the stables. The only downside to this comfy cottage was that the bathrooms were very small and neither of the showers had a door or shower curtain. Consequently, the bathroom floors got flooded every time the shower was used and had to be mopped up before any further use.

Response on behalf of the owner:- Thank you for taking the time to review The Stables and your kind words. We are sorry that you had an issue with the shower and having checked them we are at a loss as to why the floor flooded. They are designed with glass walls and an opening as per the photographs and this is the first time this issue has been raised. Had we been made aware of your issue during your stay we may have been able to help in some way. We are obviously pleased that you enjoyed your stay and found The Stables so comfortable.

The directions to Farthingales and The Stables were about the best we have had and we have been on ECC holidays many times. Our reception by Mrs Walters was friendly and helpful in every way. There are not many amenities actually in Nonington, but a great many important and historic attractions within comparatively short driving distances. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, with visits to Canterbury, Dover, Sandwich, Ramsgate, Broadstairs and Margate plus the amazing Wingham Wildlife Park. We would seriously consider going again, although we rarely visit the same place twice.

Beautifully presented property - lovely welcome pack. Owners friendly and interested in any feedback we might give. Good location if you don't mind narrow lanes !but the places we wanted to see were all a reasonable drive away.
