This pretty thatched holiday cottage nestles in a secluded location on the edge of the New Forest, with lovely views over field and woodland from the verandah. Adjoining the owner’s home, it serves as a haven for wildlife lovers; countryside walks radiate from the property offering plenty of opportunities for spotting the animals and birds resident in the area. A short drive away are the characterful resorts of Christchurch, Bournemouth and Lymington (departure point for Isle of Wight crossings), for beaches and boating. The Beaulieu Motor Museum is well worth an outing, as is the New Forest, for museum and pony trekking. Shop 1 mile.

Open-plan living/dining room with piano, French doors to verandah and rugs on wooden floor. Small kitchen area. First floor: Double bedroom with sloping ceiling and en-suite shower room with toilet. Z-bed (for +1 child only).

Electricity, full electric central heating, bed linen and towels included. Travel cot. TV. DVD. Microwave. Use of owners’ washing machine and tumble dryer. Use of owners’ freezer. Wi-fi. Sole use of part of owner’s garden and furniture. Parking 50 yards. No smoking.

There were some problems we encountered. The owner did ask whether she could water her lawn during our stay - but this happened 2 - 3 times during the week. The sprinkler usually soaked the terrace area and made the [rather weed filled] lawn squelchy to walk on. On one night the sprinkler stayed on for at least 5 hours from 5 - 10 pm on the Weds night of England's match v. Croatia. Enough water in this drought filled summer that a family of 4 would use in a week! Goodness knows what the area Water Auth would think of that - should they knew...…. The bedroom and particularly the en-suite were very cramped. The toilet system was powered electrically and groaned intolerably whenever used. At the top of the stairs to the bedroom there was a distinct smell that a cat had at one time been shut inn - and consequently misbehaved [not unnaturally] and the whiff of cat urine was initially rather off putting. The small en-suite/toilet should have a courtesy lock on the inside of the door. The locks and handles to the gate were very rudimentary - hardly functional; so too was the inside lock of the cottage. The cottage yale lock was very crude on the inside of the door & did not have a lock/catch for overnight use. Downstairs facilities were comfy and the equipment complete for a week's stay. The fridge was stocked with a pint of milk, some jams, mar ma, and honey. We loved the 2 friendly white hens that roamed the garden, and we fed them with bread crumbs. On one occasion when we returned to the cottage we found them sitting waiting for us at the cottage door! Bless!

The picture in the brochure indicates the property is on its own but it isn't it is attached to the owners property so there is noise from the family when they are there. Apart from that the house is amazing, it has everything that you need and extras that make it feel more like a hotel stay than a self catering stay. It is so wonderfully clean and comfortable you really don't want to leave. The garden is small but enough and there are loungers and chairs for you to sit outside. Books to read, dvds to watch and a piano to play if you can . All in all a wonderful stay and can't wait to go back
