Relax infront of the wood burner or have a BBQ in the large garden, this 18th-century property is perfect for a family summer holiday, or a cosy winter getaway.

Relax infront of the wood burner or have a BBQ in the large garden, this 18th-century property is perfect for a family summer holiday, or a cosy winter getaway.

Sitting prominently in the heart of the Duddon Valley, this period cottage has been located on a working farm since 1765, and enjoys beautiful views across to Caw and Stickle Pike. High Hurst is criss-crossed with footpaths and bridleways offering a gateway to the local fells, including Dow Crag and the Coniston mountains. Attached to the owners’ home, High Hurst is part of an original 18th-century farmhouse which has smaller outbuildings, including an original Victorian outhouse. It is surrounded by 20 acres of prime grazing land encompassing a quarter of a mile stretch of the River Duddon, this spate river is crossed by a series of ancient stepping stones along its length. During the lambing season and winter months, Herdwick sheep occupy the associated farmland prior to release onto the upper fells, leaving the owners small flock of Ryeland sheep as permanent residents of the farm, keeping the hens company. Secluded, peaceful and with breathtaking views, High Hurst offers the perfect location for the Lake District visitor looking for inspiration and relaxation.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; The Beast from the East did bring very challenging weather, but there are night store heaters, wood burning stove, fan heaters, electric blanket and hot water bottles in the cottage. The degree of warmth in the cottage has not been an issue with previous guests.

The cottage is great and Robin is really helpful with places to go and places to avoid. We brought all the food that we would need so was fine that there weren’t stores close but that worked well for us. The living room is cosy and great to just relax in. Perfect for a quiet week away. I believe it would also have been perfect to go walking however as we were there for Christmas with loads of rain, we decided to stay cosy inside.
