Enjoy a romantic getaway in a peaceful location at Higher Clamland, with its cosy wood burner and a kingsize sleigh bed.

Enjoy a romantic getaway in a peaceful location at Higher Clamland, with its cosy wood burner and a kingsize sleigh bed.

Surrounded by peaceful countryside and glorious wildlife, this typically Cornish, stone and slate barn has been lovingly converted to create a purpose-built holiday cottage with the emphasis on comfort, but at minimal cost to the environment. The cottage is approached via a private drive through the woods from a quiet country lane (no traffic noise!). Higher Clamland adjoins a second cottage; both cottages have their own fenced gardens and separate parking for two cars. The cottage also has the use of 2½ acres of woodland - perfect for a morning stroll with (or without) the dogs.
Higher Clamland offers an ideal base for exploring Devon and Cornwall, being centrally located and only ½ an hour’s drive from either the rocky north coast or the sandy south coast. Boscastle, Tintagel, the small sandy cove of Trebarwith, and Crackington Haven are all within easy reach, as are Looe, Polperro and Seaton. Both Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor are a short drive away, as well as a selection of magnificent National Trust properties (Cotehele being the nearest). The Eden Project is not far away, there is golf at nearby St Mellion, with smaller courses at Launceston, Holsworthy and Bude. Horse riding, fishing and, of course, walking and cycling, are all available locally. Launceston, the ancient capital of Cornwall is 10 minutes away, with its fine castle, steam railway, restaurants and shops. There is a wide selection of pubs offering excellent food within easy reach. Beach 20 miles. Shop 3 miles, pub about 1 mile.

All on the ground floor. Slate floors throughout.
Open plan living space.
Living area: With wood burner, Freeview TV, DVD player with a selections of DVDs, vaulted ceiling and French doors leading to seating area.
Dining area.
Kitchen area: With cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer and washing machine.

Please note: There is a pond in the shared grounds, and the sloping garden has 1 step.

A gorgeous, quiet retreat in a beautiful and well maintained location. The owners were friendly and helpful; milk and home grown apple juice were ready and waiting for us. There were extensive, up to date, ideas and leaflets for things to do during our stay. Breakfast in the lovely enclosed garden was a real treat. If you want a really relaxing and quiet holiday this is the perfect place. Our two dogs loved it there and rather enjoyed their visits to the appropriately named Springer Spaniel pub as did we.

This was the second time that we have stayed at Higher Clamland, and once again it was perfect. When we first arrived we had been caught in the rain and was soaking wet, and Mary very kindly loaned us a heated airer in order to dry our clothes- nothing is ever too much trouble. All of the cooking utensils and equipment throughout the cottage is of a very high standard, and there is everything available that you could possibly require. Even though we went in October this year, the heating system that is installed in the cottage kept us warm and there was no need to even use the log burner that is there. The location of the cottage is also perfect. It is down a narrow one lane track, far enough away from civilisation as to be peaceful, but close enough to Launceston's amenities as not to be a problem (Tesco is 5 minutes down the road). There is so much to do locally (Kitts Hill is a must as well as Golitha Falls) or you can travel further afield without taking too much time out of your day. You can travel to both coasts within a short time (about 30 minutes to Bude one way and same to Looe on the other coast). Newquay is about an hour away, Port Isaac (Doc Martin land) approx 40 minutes away. You really cannot get a cottage in a more perfect location for peace, tranquility and beautiful surroundings. I cannot recommend this cottage highly enough; so much so that we have already booked to go again next year. Once again, thank you so much Mary and Steve for a perfect holiday, and we shall see you again soon. Toni
