Surrounded by peaceful countryside and glorious wildlife, this delightful granite and slate barn enjoys the use of 2½ acres of woodland walks.

Surrounded by peaceful countryside and glorious wildlife, this typically Cornish, stone and slate barn was lovingly converted in 2009 to create a purpose-built holiday cottage with the emphasis on comfort, but at minimal cost to the environment. The cottage is approached via a private drive through the woods from a quiet country lane (no traffic noise!). Higher Clamland adjoins a second holiday cottage; both cottages have their own fenced gardens and separate parking for two cars. The cottage also has the use of 2½ acres of woodland - perfect for a morning stroll with (or without) the dogs.
Higher Clamland offers an ideal base for exploring Devon and Cornwall, being centrally located and only ½ an hour’s drive from either the rocky north coast or the sandy south coast. Boscastle, Tintagel, the small sandy cove of Trebarwith, and Crackington Haven are all within easy reach, as are Looe, Polperro and Seaton. Both Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor are a short drive away, as well as a selection of magnificent National Trust properties (Cotehele being the nearest). The Eden Project is not far away, there is golf at nearby St Mellion, with smaller courses at Launceston, Holsworthy and Bude. Horse riding, fishing and, of course, walking and cycling, are all available locally. Launceston, the ancient capital of Cornwall is 10 minutes away, with its fine castle, steam railway, restaurants and shops. There is a wide selection of pubs offering excellent food within easy reach. Shop 3 miles, pub about 1 mile.

Open-plan living/dining room with wood-burning stove, French doors to seating area, vaulted ceiling and kitchen area. Two steps down to double bedroom with 5ft mahogany sleigh bed and TV. Bathroom with shower over double-ended bath and toilet. Slate floor throughout.

All went well till the internet access failed during the first week. Sadly it could not be fixed until after we left at the end of the second week. With sattelite/telephone variable it was a bit awkward. Otherwise the holiday was fine.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your positive comment that we very much appreciate. Apologies for the difficulties with the internet – as the whole network was disabled it took longer than we would have liked to correct the fault. An initial visit from BT established that the problem lay with the router in Higher Clamland, this then had to be dealt with by our own contractor who eventually established that someone staying in Higher Clamland had inadvertently altered the router from a dynamic IP address to a static IP address and this had interfered with the whole network effectively disabling it. This can only be done manually. We obviously don't know when or how this occurred, unfortunately the whole network had to be reset as a result (£60.00)! We are fortunate in having a good high speed fibre internet connection, unusual in rural Cornwall, giving excellent speeds. This was the first (and hopefully last) problem we have had with the system.

The cottage is extremely well equipped and very peaceful. We would stay again if visiting that area of Cornwall.

This cottage was absolutely beautiful, and in a fantastic setting. We were looking for somewhere that was in a rural setting, peaceful and where we could just get away from it all. This cottage ticked all of those boxes. Usually I do not book a cottage where the owners are on site, but as all of our other boxes were ticked we decided to take the chance and hope that the owners were not too intrusive. They weren't. They were amazing. They were there to welcome us and show us around, and then we were left alone, but in the knowledge that they were only a few steps away if we needed anything, and we did feel that we could go to them if necessary. The cottage itself was cosy and welcoming, with good quality furnishing and fittings. It was comfortable, warm and had everything that we needed. The bed was so comfy I didn't want to get up in the morning. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. As much as the cottage was lovely; our favourite part was being able to walk around the owners private wood with our two dogs. It was always a good way to finish the day off. The cottage and owners were very, very dog friendly-they even got their own treats when we arrived! There were water bowls available for them, it was great having slate floors that were so easy to keep clean. They provided covers for the furniture in case the dogs snuck up onto the furniture, I thought this was a brilliant idea, ours aren't allowed on furniture, but I did find them trying to sneak up a couple of times. The only thing I could suggest to make it a bit more dog friendly would be to have an outside tap with some hose so that if needed you were able to rinse the dogs off if they got dirty before taking them into the lovely cottage-but this is by no means a negative just a suggestion. I loved the fact that it was a very environmentally friendly cottage, a lot of places don't seem to care, but Steve and Mary excelled themselves in their efforts. Our whole holiday in this beautiful cottage was absolutely perfect. Thank you so much Steve and Mary. We have already recommended it to friends, and we will definetly use again when we visit Cornwall again.
