With a mixture of modern and traditional features, this attractive cottage enjoys a peaceful garden with its own charming stream.

This attractive, 19th-century, detached holiday cottage stands in its own gardens, with a shallow stream. Fully modernised, it still retains original character and is peacefully situated on the edge of Lacock village, a firm favourite with TV and film producers. Traditional tea rooms, olde worlde pubs, gift shops, a 14th-century tithe barn and scenic walks make this popular with visitors. The Georgian city of Bath is about 20 minutes away; Chippenham and Devizes (with its famous Caen Hill Locks) are 10 minutes away. Corsham Court, Bowood Estate and Westonbirt Arboretum are also close by. Stonehenge and Longleat Safari Park are within easy reach. Shops 1 mile, pub 100 yards.

Double aspect living room with gas fire. Dining room with feature fireplace. Well-equipped kitchen with tiled floor. Utility room. First floor: Double bedroom. Twin bedroom. Bathroom with shower attachment and toilet.

Although a delightful looking cottage It needs maintenance on the poor lighting in all rooms, leeks in the kitchen from roof and very poor maintenance of the garden which is totally overgrown. Also the patio and bridge were extremely slippery and dangerous. It could be made into a lovely cottage if upkeep was done regularly. We left a day early because of the above.

Not returning is because we visited the things/areas we wanted to in Wiltshire. The cottage owner was very accommodating.

Lex Cottage is the quintessential 'English Country Cottage' in a beautiful location, helped by being 50 yds. down the hill from The Red Lion'! (little noise even with all windows open because of the heat!). The cottage, as you might expect, remains cool. The rear patio deck is a lovely spot but both gates to steps down from it are u/s. They are at least wedged closed which will help prevent little ones from falling down. The little wooden bridge across the brook is almost obscured to half it's width by overgrown hedging. This forces you across to the 'railed' side, said rail slightly rickety, so slightly disconcerting! Trees/undergrowth crowding out kitchen window making it dark and spoiling the view although it does go some way to disguising the scaffolding platform that, for reasons unknown, has been left leaning against the outside wall. The kitchen tap(s) leak. Similar to a lesser extent with the dining room, it's window somewhat overshadowed by large shrubs which could do with cutting back. The 'garden room' or 'pavilion' is now looking somewhat neglected and doesn't really encourage you to spend much time there.

The cottage needs some maintenance, we left our suggestions with owner. We were there when the weather was not very good so we were unable to sit on decking very much. We had to use the dining room which is dark, aggravated by large shrubs across the window which need cutting back. Turning area in drive for cars not easy. It would be worth considering how the big stones on the edge of the grass are placed. Many good things about cottage.

This is a lovely cottage with a peaceful large garden and beautiful countryside. Overall the cottage had everything we required but the pots and pans needed washing before we could use them and the wobbly toilet seat was a little unnerving!
