This beautiful village property is ideal for discovering all that Rutland has to offer from watersports to quaint market towns.

This beautiful village property is ideal for discovering all that Rutland has to offer from watersports to quaint market towns.

This traditional, terraced, stone cottage is situated in the quiet and pretty village of Manton, on the banks of the southern shore of Rutland Water. This cottage has been lovingly restored and still boasts many original features including the now decorative traditional fireplace. The property offers a large dining room inside and two patio areas outside which catch the sun, the upper one offering use of a fantastic BBQ area.
Rutland Water is a haven for birdwatchers and lovers of wildlife, with the Rutland Osprey Project at Lyndon Nature Reserve and Rutland Water Nature Reserve at Egleton close by. The latter site hosts the British Birdwatching Fair every year, described as the ‘Glastonbury of birdwatching’ by the organisers.
The cycle route around Rutland Water passes through the village, and the local dining pub is one of the best en route; it is well equipped with cycle racks and outdoor tables, so a great place to start or finish your ride, and only 250 yards from Manton Cottage. There are many activities that can be enjoyed at Rutland Water, including sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, boat trips, crazy golf, fishing, rock climbing, high ropes course, abseiling, cycling, hot air ballooning or just walking. If you want to discover more of the area, the market towns of Oakham, Uppingham, Stamford and Melton Mowbray are all close by. A little further afield are the larger towns and cities of Leicester, Peterborough and Market Harborough. Oakham Castle, a fine example of 12th century architecture, one of England’s greatest Elizabethan houses, Burghley House and Rockingham Castle, a remarkable castle, built on the instruction of William the Conqueror are all nearby. Shop 1½ miles, pub and restaurant 250 yards.

A very comfortable cottage (if you don't mind benches to sit at the table) with a good outdoor table and chairs (if the weather is nice). The very modern cooker and hob take some mastering for older people like us, but we managed to do it. Not enough serving dishes and no bread knife (try slicing bread with an un-serrated knife!) Excellent local pub with good food. Very good shops in Oakham. Delightful countryside and ancient buildings to visit.
