Delightful detached cottage, with beams, wood burning stove and enclosed garden, in medieval Lavenham with Tudor Guildhall, Kersey nearby.

This 15th-century, Grade II listed cottage is packed with characterful features, but has all the comforts of home. The original part of this detached cottage is a 500-year old timber-framed ‘open hall’ dwelling for weavers. The living room is a delight, with many period features including exposed beams in the walls, hidden alcoves, exposed brick, rugs on the oak floor, and antique furniture. There are two comfortable sofas to curl up on in front of the wood burner in its original fireplace.
The conservatory/dining room is light and airy and opens onto the lovely, enclosed garden, which is perfect for enjoying a leisurely breakfast or a glass of wine in the evening. The master double bedroom has exposed beams, original wide-oak floor boards, Persian rugs, antique furniture and a dormer window with views to the 14th-century church tower. There is also a twin bedroom with exposed beams and garden views. The ground floor double bedroom also has exposed beams, oak wood floor, rugs and shabby-chic painted furniture. All bedrooms have fresh linen with comfortable duvets and pillows, the perfect place for laying your head at night. The bathroom has a shower over bath, making it perfect for a leisurely soak. There is also a separate cloakroom with exposed beams. The lovely sunny, walled garden is beautiful and relaxing. Enjoy an al fresco meal on the patio or just relax with a book and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The property is quirky and unusual, with some small steps and low doorways. The cottage is in a quiet and secluded location, in the heart of medieval Lavenham, with just a short stroll away from excellent pubs, restaurants, tea rooms, museums, shops and the famous National Trust owned Guildhall.

Poppy Cottage was beautifully clean on arrival. Everything you need for a restful holiday in Suffolk was provided. Lavenham is a beautiful village with restaurants and tea rooms but we spent most of our evenings at home over dinner. In the summer, there is a beautiful garden and for the winter a wood stove.
