This complex is the perfect place from which to enjoy a coastal holiday in a peaceful, idyllic location.

This complex is the perfect place from which to enjoy a coastal holiday in a peaceful, idyllic location.

Owned by Her Majesty the Queen, in Right of Her Duchy of Lancaster, Scalby Lodge is a collection of fifteen beautiful cottages situated in an idyllic clifftop setting near the elegant seaside town of Scarborough.

Springthorpe Cottage is a holidaymaker’s delight. Complete with hanging baskets, olde worlde street lamps and a beautiful stone façade, you’ll fall in love with this property before you even have your foot in the door.
The cottage is part of the Scalby Lodge Farm, a prestigious holiday complex that’s owned by Her Majesty the Queen in Right of Her Duchy of Lancaster. Hugged from all sides by lush green pastures and wildflower meadows, the stage is set for a truly memorable holiday by the sea.

Boasting cosiness and warmth, Springthorpe Cottage is designed for tight-knit families and reconnecting with your dearly beloved. Once you’ve crossed the threshold, you’re met with a luscious social space furnished with elegant décor that’s set around a wood burner. The high vaulted ceiling and chunky wooden beams create a roomy impression, which is highlighted by ample natural light that floods in through Velux windows. But it’s the simple beauty that makes this property so special: a bright and homely cottage of natural colours, free from bric-a-brac and tired old furniture. It’s this innate character makes Springthorpe Cottage something to admire.
The complex perches behind the cliffs near to Scarborough, drinking in the compelling seascape views. The on-site games room gives children a place to hang out, and avid birdwatchers are catered for with a hide overlooking the pond. It’s customary on British holidays to explore the area’s sights and sounds, braving the elements and meeting the friendly locals, much to the interest of the folks back home. But if you’d rather spend the entirety of your trip with your feet beside the crackling fire and a good book in hand, don’t worry – we won’t tell.

If you do fancy stretching your legs, wander down into the coastal town, which is home to two beaches, the largest open-air theatre in Europe and an imposing castle, or head northward along the clifftops on the Cleveland Way. Situated between the Heritage Coast and the North York Moors National Park, there’s stunning natural landscapes in all directions, giving rise to a wealth of attractions and activities to try.

We stayed in Springthorpe Cottage a couple of times now. It's perfect size and layout for our needs (family of 3 with a 7 yo) and the location is very convenient to explore the North Yorkshire Coast. I would have given top marks if it also had sea views from inside, but for us it really doesn't matter. We love the welcome basket, Molton Brown toiletries and the log fire in the evenings. I'm sure that we will be returning.

Our second visit, we love the location and the children's play area. The local pub was only 10 mins walk away(although take a torch). The only downside we had was that this particular cottage is close to the car park so we were woken by a hen party returning at 2am , other than that it wasn't a problem.

The cottage and surrounding area was lovely . However due to very wet and windy weather our activities were severely limited. The snooker table and games were appreciated. There was a strong smell of central heating oil coming from the boiler cupboard.
