A superb base for walking, cycling, climbing and riding, after a day out exploring return home and enjoy the wood-burning stove.

Shawside is set in stunning, peaceful countryside within a short walk of The Roaches, a beautiful part of the Peak District ideal for walking, cycling, climbing and riding. Buxton is a 20 minute drive, Leek 10 minutes, though the main road is almost entirely out of sight and sound from the house. Shawside is a classic Victorian Staffordshire farmhouse and barn conversion set in four acres of grounds, with unrestricted views along a moorland valley and very few buildings in sight. In summer the heather blooms turn the valley a gorgeous purple. Shop 3 miles, pub 1½ miles.

Beamed living room with wood-burning stove. Sitting room with Bechstein grand piano. Dining room. Well-equipped kitchen. Utility with Belfast sink. One step to bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet. First floor: Double bedroom with exposed trusses. Two beamed twin bedrooms. Bathroom with separate walk-in shower and toilet.

a really lovely cottage that feels really remote but is only a short drive from leek or buxton. The only addition would be wifi.

Lovely comfortable cottage in an excellent location. Just the buzz of the bees and the occasional cow escaping onto the lane to think about. A perfect escape.

This is our third visit in the spring of consecutive years. We, our daughter, son and their partners, plus friends too, all love the setting and the farm cottage. It is a 'home from home' with comfort and also the extensive views so often lacking in the UK. With or without car, you can launch out and enjoy fantastic walking within seconds..............not even minutes. All of us would make this an annual pilgrimage always but many of the younger people have to have links with City jobs: lack of internet and mobile connections can be wonderful but may mean that some of the family are excluded. Reluctantly we might have to visit less frequently. But we will return.
