This quirky, unusual yet stylish property sleeps four guests, is situated in an AONB and is just six miles from Bath.

This spectacular accommodation was constructed in 1821 as the brewing hall of a former brewery supplying around 14 pubs in Freshford, of which only one remains today. The Brewery ceased production in the 1890s and tragically fell into disrepair for the next 60 years. It then had a diverse range of uses in the 20th century from a paper store to an air raid shelter for the local school during WWII. In the 1970s Jeremy Fry, of Fry’s Turkish Delight fame, came to the rescue and converted it into a private home. Princess Margaret was a good friend of Jeremy Fry and visited the brewery regularly, bringing with her a highly visible police presence, as well as tending the gardens – she even left impressions from her high heels on the leather floor! During this time The Vaults was used as a wheelchair factory business established by Jeremy Fry and his good friend Lord Snowdon. It has since been transformed into a unique listed property providing spacious holiday accommodation for up to 4 guests. There is a sleeping area at each end of the huge living space and original features, such as the magnificent stone barrel-vaulted ceiling and natural stone walls have been retained, yet it exudes a modern ambience and is beautifully furnished throughout.
Its glorious architecture, central village location and added luxury of a 5ft four-poster bed make this property one not to be missed. Freshford village lies in the heart of a conservation area in an AONB and is within walking distance of the medieval church and village pub, which hosts events throughout the year. Boasting some fascinating Georgian architecture as well as beautiful canal and riverside walks, Freshford makes a perfect base for your holiday in Somerset. The railway station in the village serves Bradford-on-Avon as well as other towns and villages including the Georgian World Heritage city of Bath just 6 miles away. Bath will keep you busy all day with its grand cathedral, Roman Baths and Pump Rooms, shops and museums; or why not relax and pamper yourself at the Thermae Spa? Golf and horse riding can also be found locally. Village shop ¼ mile.

Spacious living/dining room with vaulted ceiling. Modern fitted kitchen. Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet. 6 steps up to bedroom area with 5ft four-poster bed. Galleried twin bedroom.

Wonderful get away place. The Brewery Vaults in Freshford is great for the quiet retreat. Loads of country walks from the doorstep. Village shop and Freshford Inn so close that you needn't travel far for all your needs. The Brewery Vaults is a unique grade 11 listed building, beautifully furnished and so spacious. The kitchen is very well equipped and really clean. The neighbors are very pleasent and helpful. We love our time there.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Brewery Vaults. The Great: The unusual space has been lovingly and carefully designed. Clearly a lot of thought and investment has gone in to the accommodation. The space was filled with all of the amenities that you would need for a comfortable stay. We made good use of the train station which was only a 5 minute walk from the cottage. The areas for attention: Finding the cottage was problematic. The directions provided were of limited help and Google maps takes you to a different/unreachable place in Freshford (Resorted to putting St Peters Church into the google maps search instead). Parking: The cottage has one allocated parking space (which is good) but due to some neighbourly negotiations it is allocated on the hill. Due to me reading the parking instructions incorrectly, I was requested very politely to move my car by the owner of the Vaults and the next day on a chance meeting with the neighbour date stated that this could become a more frequent problem as the cottage is likely to receive different guests every week (some of whom may be less polite and respectful). Future guests would be strongly advised 'in advance' to park facing downwards and at an angle to save being blocked in or risk (as I did) having to manoeuvre forwards and backwards, on a hill trying to get out (not good for brakes, clutch or nerves!). The smell: On arrival and for the duration of our stay I personally found the smell of the Vaults unpleasant and distracting. The smell really lowered the overall quality for me and would be my only personal hesitation rushing back to what otherwise was a relaxing and excellent stay.

Lovely accommodation in very nice village. Had a nice few days visiting Bath and local walks and pubs. Unusual but stunning and interesting building and architecture. Parking was tricky
