Set in the countryside, The Huntsman is a great property in which to explore both the Norfolk coast and broads.

Centrally located, with a great deal to discover in all directions, guests will be spoilt for choice when it comes to enjoying their holiday at Castle Farm. Standing on the banks of the River Wensum and accessed down a long private drive, these three properties are set adjacent to the owner’s home and family farming enterprise. Castle Farm (ref UKC1630) is a spacious farmhouse, whilst The Huntsman (ref UKC1628) and The Buttery (ref UKC1629) are wings of Castle Farm. Comprising of 550 acres of arable and grassland which is utilised by the noted Pennyspot herd of 40 rare breed White Park cows and their calves, together with the de Morley herd of Lincoln Red cattle. Situated in natural countryside on the edge of a Site of Special Scientific Interest (a conservation designation denoting a protected area), this is the perfect base for discerning guests wishing to escape the stresses and strains of everyday life. There are wonderful walks that start from the doorstep, including the Wensum Way 12 mile footpath that stretches from Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse Museum to Lenwade; linking one end of the Nar Valley Way with Marriott’s Way.
The bustling market town of East Dereham, 4 miles, has a 9-hole golf course, cinema, bowling alley, leisure centre, restaurants and a market on Tuesdays and Fridays. The pretty, Georgian market towns of Holt and Blakeney, with its quay and nature reserve, fabulous eating places, galleries, antiques and shops, are a 30-minute drive. The seaside town of Sheringham, 25 miles, has a swimming pool and is home to the famous ‘Poppy Line’, a heritage railway that runs along the coast to Holt. Sandy beaches are located to the north west, the north and the east, and there is a variety of seaside experiences to be had. Further along the coast, you will find Titchwell Marsh RSPB Reserve, Brancaster Staithe, Burnham Deepdale, trips to see the seals at Morston and Wells-next-the-Sea, with its narrow gauge railway, beautiful quay and quaint mix of artisan and traditional seaside shops and cafés. The seaside town of Cromer is 28 miles, with its famous promenade, pier and sandy beach. For all the fun of the fair, choose Hunstanton, 34 miles, or Great Yarmouth, 40 miles, both of which offer amusements and sandy beaches.

We booked the Huntsman as a late availability holiday. The bed was comfortable and the shower good, found the cowshed toiletries a nice touch as cottage is on a working farm. The owners and staff were pleasant and their dogs very friendly (one adopted us and came with us on a riverside walk ). Fishing on the River Wensum amongst the cow herd was relaxing, however being confronted by the herd including a large bull was quite exciting as they showed their ownership of the river when they needed a drink although not in a threatening way. Pensthorpe, Holkham, Wells, Fakenham and Norwich within easy driving distance.
