Within easy reach of Gloucester and many activities and attractions, The Retreat is a great base from which to enjoy this area.

Escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy a relaxing break on the edge of the Forest of Dean. Standing detached, this contemporary style lodge is ideal for families or groups of friends holidaying together.
Boasting rustic décor paired with sumptuous furnishings, The Retreat balances style and comfort in equal measure. Exposed stone and natural wooden slats adorn the walls of the open plan living, as well as a large window allowing natural light to flood in, to enhance this impressive space. Wooden beams run across the fireplace, holding a warming wood burner, perfect for spending nights cuddled in front of, surrounded by your loved ones. Whip up something delicious in the contemporary style kitchen or throw open the double doors and dine alfresco!
Also on the ground floor, which has underfloor heating throughout, is a cosy double bedroom complete with an en-suite wet room, ideal for less mobile guests. Venture up the rather unique and impressive turning, wooden stairs, and take your pick of three further lovingly decorated bedrooms. Each first floor bedroom has the quirky feature of sloping corrugated ceilings. The Retreat really does have character and charm oozing from every corner.
Head back downstairs and outside where you will find the spacious, enclosed garden, enjoying views over the surrounding countryside. The owner’s farm can be found just up the road which you are free to explore at your leisure. Enjoy walks through the woodland or a picnic by the stream, and watch the local wildlife in their natural habitat. Or for families with small children, why not take a tour of the farm where your little ones can learn about its day to day running. With so much to do on-site, this fabulous adobe is ideal for that well needed rural break away.

We stayed at the retreat last weekend with out 2 young children / 2 small dogs . It was a perfect stay . When we arrived Jo had left us some fresh bread / flowers .. the house was fully cleaned and stocked with logs for the fire . The house itself has been really tastefully renovated by its owner ( Ed ) .. clearly Ed has spent a lot of time / money converting this hidden gem !! ..Idyllic spot too , right on the edge of the Forest of Dean . We will definitely be returning . Was very handy too that Jo was always at the end of the phone if we had ny questions . Highly recommend..

Beautiful and interesting barn conversion in a perfect setting. Good forest walks with the dogs nearby without needing to use the car. Some nice pubs within a short drive.

Our group of 4 adults and 4 young children stayed at the Retreat during August 2017. We thought that the location was convenient for the Forest of Dean, and offered peace and quiet as it is situated away from the road on a farm. However, we would question the rating of 4 stars. Having booked many cottages of similar rating over the past 6 years, we thought this one wasn't up to the usual standard. The cottage has many problems which makes the stay uncomfortable; There is a significant lack of clothes storage therefore forcing you to live out of your suitcase, no bath (useful for children), extremely dangerous spiral staircase (no handrail on one side - not sure how building inspectors have signed this off), a lack of spare towels, no airer to dry washed clothes, no spare bedding, rubbish from past tenants behind behind the sofas. The cottage is small and the bedrooms have little in the way of noise proofing, so everyone can hear one another - relevant for children's bedtime while the adults are still in the lounge, or in the morning when the children wake and some adults may wish to sleep in for longer - i.e. On holiday. The downstairs bedroom has an outside door which isn't fitted correctly, thereby leaving a significant gap which will make winter very cold in this room. The photos online look nice, but the uncomfortable reality of living in the property for a week leaves me to suggest that you look elsewhere for your holiday accommodation.

I would stay here again but only as a group of adults and not with a dog. The garden isn't enclosed and you have to keep dog on leads (there's a big sign telling you this). There's no sound proofing and the floor is hard concrete with two dangerous stair flights so not suitable for babies or toddlers. The house is nicely finished and perfect for a group of friends but not family or dog friendly. The owners were very friendly and tried to sort any problems we had quickly, also suggested some good places to visit locally.
