Nestled in a peaceful village, yet still close to local amenities, lies this beautifully presented holiday cottage, perfect for a family break away.

Nestled in a peaceful village, yet still close to local amenities, lies this beautifully presented holiday cottage, perfect for a family break away.

As you head down the scenic tree-lined high street of Bishop Middleham (a well-kept secret of County Durham) and pull up in front of the cottage, you’ll know that you’ve arrived somewhere truly special. You’re met with a bright white façade, paned windows, flowerpots and vines scaling up to a characterful red-tiled roof, a most dreamy picture of a holiday cottage. And like a therapeutic retreat, in the time it takes the kids to unpack and the tea to brew, all thoughts of your exhausting 9-5 grind will be gone.

As with many traditional country cottages, the fire lies at the heart of the house – and what a fire it is! The crowning glory of the living room, this classic heritage range will caress your toes with warmth whilst you plan your days ahead. The kitchen follows a traditional farmhouse layout, well-equipped with pots and pans dangling from white wooden beams above the toaster. A lively florid theme runs riot through the house, creating a bright and natural mood to really make you feel at home.

The master bedroom is lovingly put together upstairs, with seductive purple throws that beckons you to retire for the night. The luxuries continue with a good sized tub in the bathroom, ideal for an evening’s soak, but it’s the thoughtful touches (yummy welcome packs, complimentary toiletries and fluffy dressing gowns) the owners have gone out of their way to supply that really make your week away one to remember. The courtyard to the rear of the property is a gardener’s delight: spring sees it come to life with an eclectic mix of colourful flowers, the buzzing of bees and birds singing in the trees nearby.

Dating back to the Bronze Age, the village of Bishop Middleham oozes old-world charm. Today, many established public footpaths and cycle paths dissect the area, which provide a great way for getting around without the car. After a few day’s exploring the open countryside, history buffs and guests looking for a little retail therapy can head to the cathedral city of Durham, which is just 8 miles away and easily accessible by public transport.

Brewery cottage is a quaint cottage in a quiet village with a local pub a few doors down. It accepts pets which was a plus, there is a green just across the road to take your furry family member out to stretch their legs.
