It has had some magnificent owners through the years, including the Seely family who bought the house in the mid 1800’s. One of the famous visitors to Brook House during Charles Seely’s ownership was Garibaldi, the Italian General and Politician. Jack Seely later went on to inherit the property from his father and he was the Secretary of State for War at the outbreak WWI. He then resigned due to being caught up in political difficulties with Ireland (the Curragh affair), and was replaced by General Kitchener. Jack fought in the war with his horse, Warrior, who became famous as the horse the Germans couldn’t kill. Many famous people have visited this property including Winston Churchill, Henry VII and many more.
