This converted chapel is a great base for exploring both East Devon and Dorset, with plenty of beaches and family attractions close by.

Chapel Cottage is a converted former chapel situated in the village of Smallridge in the Black Down Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Originally dating from 1797, the chapel formed a central part of life in the village. Now a thoughtfully and tastefully presented, detached holiday home, Chapel Cottage offers somewhere unique to stay whilst offering up all the facilities modern life expects. With large original windows and high ceilings, the cottage is flooded with natural light. There is a small courtyard area at the front of the property where you can sit and watch the world go by. There is an inn in the village where guests can enjoy a drink and a meal.
Chapel Cottage lies close to the town of Axminster. This Devon market town, situated on the River Axe, was famous for its carpets. Surrounded by stunning countryside and filled with charm and character, this attractive town lies in the beautiful Axe Valley, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Boasting quaint villages and unspoilt countryside, whether you are planning your summer holidays or are looking for somewhere to slip away in the depths of winter for a romantic break, Axminster and the surrounding area have something to offer you. Celebrity chef and TV presenter Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall purchased an old inn that once provided the ballroom of the town, and converted it into his very first River Cottage Canteen and Deli (an organic produce shop/market and canteen). He also has his River Cottage HQ nearby offering a variety of cookery courses and dining experiences.
Chapel Cottage is just 7 miles from the World Heritage Jurassic Coast, and is ideally located to explore the South West Coast Path, the Blackdown Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the popular resorts of Lyme Regis, Branscombe, Sidmouth, Beer, Seaton and the fossil beach at Charmouth. There are many local visitor attractions including Forde Abbey, Beer Quarry Caves, Burrow Farm Gardens, sea fishing boat trips at Lyme Regis, the Seaton Tramway and the Axe Valley Wildlife Park, which is a great family outing where you can see a variety of birds and mammals.
