Situated within stunning grounds, this cottage for four guests is close to beaches at Eastbourne as well as plenty of attractions for all weathers.

Situated within stunning grounds, this cottage for four guests is close to beaches at Eastbourne as well as plenty of attractions for all weathers.

Cowbeech Farm Cottage is situated in the beautiful grounds of the owner’s farmhouse on the edge of the village which bears the same name. Originally part of the old dairy and very much a working dairy farm back in the 1950s, it has its own enclosed garden off the original farmyard. The stunning farmhouse grounds have featured in the National Garden Scheme, and guests can stroll around the lake and marvel at the unusual Japanese garden. On the boundary of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and within strolling distance of the local hostelry, which dates back to the early 1600s. A walkers and cyclists paradise, try the Cuckoo Trail, 19 miles of walkways and lanes that follows the old Cuckoo Line Railway from Heathfield to Eastbourne, and gained its name from the releasing of a cuckoo at the Heathfield Fair.
Michelham Priory, Herstmonceux Castle and its gardens, Drusillas Zoo and the Bluebell Railway are great days out, or spend a Saturday evening stargazing at Herstmonceux Science Observatory. Eastbourne with its beaches and pier is a 30-minute drive, and Battle is 8 miles with good rail connections to London. Should the weather be inclement, there is a leisure centre at Hailsham with flumes, inflatables and ten pin bowling. Beach 9 miles. Shop ¾ mile, pub and restaurant 175 yards.

Step to entrance. All on the ground floor.
Living/dining room: With wood burner, 38" Freeview TV and DVD player.
Kitchen: With electric oven, induction hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and tiled floor.
Bedroom 1: With kingsize bed.
Bedroom 2: With twin beds.
Bathroom: With shower over bath, and toilet.

Electric storage heaters, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi included. Initial logs for wood burner included. Travel cot and highchair. Welcome pack. Enclosed garden with garden furniture and barbecue. 3-acre landscaped grounds (shared with owner). Private parking for 2 cars. No smoking. Please note: There is an unfenced lake and streams in the grounds, 330 yards away.

We enjoyed our stay and the host was helpful, available and provided a very nice welcome pack. Overall the cottage and garden were pleasant and comfortable but the kitchen could have been better equipped (e.g. Dishwasher, sharp knives, salad bowl...) Local pub was good but location didn't provide other amenities within easy range.

The welcome pack ( 1/4lb butter, small loaf ,6medium ! eggs , 1 pt milk 3 squares firlighters was an indication of what was to come .After 3 days of inadequate heating we asked for it to be turned up.Next day I asked again for the heating to be increased as I have an under active thyroid. It was immediately turned up until the last day. This caused major problems as neither of us likes to complain. We had no greeting from the owners ( living 100metres away !) and no enquiry as to whether the heating problem had been resolved So felt that having taken over £400 from us they did not care about our welfare or enjoyment. Shame because this is the type of cottage and location that we would wish to return to. Still he saved £20 on the heating bill.

Response on behalf of the Owner; Dear James, We are sorry that the cottage didn’t fulfil your expectations. Our welcome pack is only for your convenience for that first cup of tea and that initial first breakfast. When guests let us know about specific needs and requirements we try to meet them.

When we arrived, it was fairly easy to find with a covered parking space right outside the cottage in the courtyard. There was a welcome pack of bread, some butter & a pint of milk to get us started and the place was clean & cosy. The guest information brochure was pretty comprehensive & there were maps for local walks & attractions etc. We were lucky with the weather & we went out every day on walks followed by nice pub lunches & in our opinion, Cowbeech Farm Cottage was a good base to go out from. The hosts were very nice when we met them briefly & have kindly provided books, board games & DVDs in the property so there is plenty to do in the evenings or if the weather was bad during your stay. The cottage is a decent size and was big enough for our family of four (+ dog) for a few nights - the large corner sofa was nice & comfortable and once the woodburner was on, the place was really warm. All in all, we would recommend the property to others and would consider returning if we were visiting the area again.
