Eagles Nest at Greyfriars, is a first storey wing of a Grade II listed stone mansion, dating from 1819, overlooking a 13th century ruined abbey, which is designated a Site of Special Historical Interest.

With a plethora of original features, including stone mullion windows, ornate plaster coving, original fireplace with a wood burner, private terrace and garden with a wood-fired hot tub, stunning views over the estate parkland and the sea, the property is a fabulous base for exploring the High Weald Area of Natural Beauty, via the many footpaths, by bike or on foot.

In the living room, you will find a carved stone fireplace, whilst the luxurious bedrooms have 5000 pocket sprung cashmere and wool mattresses along with 800 thread count linens. For your comfort, the underfloor heating can be controlled with individual room thermostats. The wood burner in the living room comes with an initial basket of logs, with any further logs available on request at a charge. There will also be a welcome pack of local produce provided.

After an alfresco breakfast on the terrace, wander five minutes up the road to explore Winchelsea’s cellar tours, 13th century church with stunning stained glass windows, farm shop, pub, and our neighbour, Charles Palmer’s vineyard wine tours. The private garden is a stunning spot to enjoy a glass of wine or spend the evening relaxing in the wood-fired hot tub, or to cook dinner on the BBQ.
2 miles away is the Cinque Port of Rye, spend the day exploring the boutique shops, many restaurants, bars and castle. The Harbour and nature reserve are well worth a visit. Winchelsea beach is a local well-kept secret, and the sand dunes of Camber sands are a 15-minute drive, and both are dog friendly.
Within 45 minutes-drive are Sissinghurst Garden, Leeds Castle, Drusillas Park, and the stunning Romney Marsh.

For families, on request, a drop side cot bed, or travel cot, highchair, steriliser and stairgate, are available. There is a children’s playground a 5-minute walk away, and the private garden is secure.

With private parking and accessed through a courtyard, the accommodation is reached via fifteen steps to a terrace running the whole length of the property. There is a step into each room from the terrace. The accommodation is not suitable for those with mobility issues, or who have difficulty with stairs.
Pub and shop within ¼ mile.
