This holiday property, a former part of Mendip Hospital, is full of charm and character, with art work and wonderful furnishings throughout.

Dating from 1880, Easel Cottage sits on the highest point of South Horrington village, just outside Wells, affording it a superb viewpoint. Formerly, the cottage was part of the Mendip Hospital, and used as a porter’s lodge and staff quarters. It was originally attached to the main house (currently habited by the cottage owners) by a bridge. Easel Cottage has been lovingly brought back to life without losing its original charm, retaining original doors and windows, with the addition of modern comfort. The main house is the home of the owner’s, and of their gallery business, and the walls of Easel Cottage are adorned with art, making every room unique. It is an art lover’s paradise, providing your own private gallery for the duration of your stay with all of the works available for purchase. On renovating Easel Cottage, the owners have collected together weird and wonderful artefacts including unopened 1960s medication, shoes, Victorian glass and hospital menus.

The cottage is lovely, full of character and like having your own personal art gallery for the week, our 9 year old loved it and there are lots of quirky individual touches. Although an old building the kitchen and bathroom have all modern facilities but the whole decor is very in keeping with the feel of the cottage. It had everything we needed for the week. Its a secluded location, access to a games room with Table Tennis and dart board, an outdoor seated area and woodland and with the early morning sound of mooing cows to act as an alarm clock! The owner Ellie is very friendly and helpful and on hand next door for any questions and issues. There are no shops in the village but its only a few minutes drive (or manageable walk) into Wells which has plenty of shops, supermarkets and things to see. There's also plenty to do in the area; Bath, Bristol and Weston Super Mare are less than an hour away while Cheddar, Wookey Hole and Glastonbury are only a short drive away. Would definitely recommend it.
