Nestled in glorious grounds with a games room is this large, Grade II* listed elegant property. Ideal for celebrations and get-togethers.

Eldred House is a glorious, Grade II* listed Georgian property located on the edge of Colchester. The oldest part of this beautiful property is believed to date from the 15th century. Surrounded by 52 acres of private woodland and landscaped gardens, the grounds host an abundance of wildlife along with two ponds and a large lake. Featured in the magazine Country Life and Gardeners Illustrated in 2012, the grounds are a big feature to this property, and are maintained by several gardeners throughout the year. The approach to Eldred House is through a secluded woodland road leading to a stunning view of the property, onto a sweeping gravelled drive, accommodating plenty of parking.
Decorated and furnished to an excellent standard throughout, guests have a choice of 8 spacious bedrooms including a top floor apartment-style room with a kitchenette and seating area. It boasts a delightful entrance hall which leads to the elegant drawing room with shuttered sash windows and views over the grounds and landscaped gardens and with the benefit of a gym. There are several open fireplaces within the property for that warm cosy feel in the winter. Although the kitchen is spacious and well-equipped with an Aga, microwave and contemporary fixtures it does not have a conventional oven for cooking. This is the perfect hub for any large family or groups of friends who wish to celebrate and enjoy a country getaway. Renovations to this property mean that the quality is to a fantastic standard, however still in keeping with the character and charm that guests desire. The combination of outstanding beauty, fantastic location and quality accommodation makes Eldred House the perfect location that guests will never forget.

Local attractions include Colchester Castle and Colchester Zoo, with its fantastic range of animals including leopards, elephants, tigers and much more. The local town of Colchester is just a short drive away and is the oldest recorded town in Britain, with an abundance of shops, bars and restaurants. Shop and restaurant 4½ miles, pub 2 miles.

Entrance hall with seating area and open fire. Large, spacious drawing room with open fire, French doors and wooden floor. TV room with Sky TV, table football, table tennis, games console and open fire. Spacious dining room. Large kitchen with wooden floor and Aga (for cooking). Large boot room. Laundry room. This was our family's second visit - four generations with a 91 year age range - and we all had a wonderful time. This very spacious and beautiful house is also extremely comfortable, welcoming and spotlessly clean. Log fires were much appreciated. The gardens continue to develop and this visit we were lucky to see the bluebell woods in full bloom which was a glorious sight. The kitchen is very well equipped. If you need something keep looking for it as it is bound to be there. There are even non-breakable plates, glasses etc. - ideal for barbecues and also small children - which we found in a cupboard in the Boot Room.

We had a fabulous weekend with friends and family, the house was magnificent - everyone said how much they would love to spend Christmas there! Walks through the grounds and over to the pub for lunch on sunday, what more could you ask for. It was very special and brilliant for a party weekend. We watched England win the rugby too - so all the boys were happy.

The numbers say it all. A memorable weekend for the family celebration of our 60th wedding anniversary. When we saw that you didn't take dogs, even little ones, we tried to find an alternative venue but kept coming back. We are very pleased that we did so. Someone (who wasn't paying) suggested that we make it an annual event. Well we shall have to see. Many thanks

Eldred House is beautiful, just beautiful. As someone who manages 50,000 sq ft I know about property and facilities management and the house and gardens are immaculate. The rooms are spacious and well furnished - practical and tastefully furnished. It is extremely clean throughout, nothing was out of place. The facilities for hosting a large event are perfect - even down to four sauceboats! The kitchen has an aga which, for those not used to it, can be intimidating. However, with a little forethought into what you intend to cook and a review of the cook books provided (and/ or prior research) means it does not need to be overly concerning. The grounds are extensive and vary between woodland and grass. Plenty of room for a game of cricket or rounders! The administration from booking through to arrival and beyond is a well oiled machine, with every question you could consider answered easily. I have no hesitation in scoring Eldred House 10/10. There was truly not one thing which was lacking and everything was extremely well prepared. My only tip - Get your booking secured as soon as you can!

Eldred House is immaculately presented and a joy to stay in. Our family has just returned from our second (one week) visit and all 10 of us were delighted with our experience. Not only is the house top class but the grounds are delightful and perfect from young children (especially, I suspect, those between about 6 and say 13). We do not have a single negative thing to say about this house.

This was the most wonderful location to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary with our family. The house was just beautiful, so tastefully decorated, yet very welcoming and comfortable. The gardens and extensive grounds were a joy to spend time in, and the staff on the estate were very pleasant and friendly. A great experience for all of us, and we would love to return sometime in the future.
