Gardener’s Cottage has been transformed into an amazing holiday home and is set in the grounds of the magnificent Chillington Hall and estate.

Set in the grounds of the magnificent Chillington Hall and estate, this beautiful detached cottage, formerly the gardener’s residence, has been transformed into an amazing holiday home that provides excellent quality, superb furnishings and cosy woodburners. The estate itself lies on the Staffordshire/Shropshire borders, providing a good base from which to discover both areas. Guests are able to explore the many public footpaths and bridleways that cross the 4000-acre estate (maps provided). On certain days of the year, the grounds are open to the public so they can explore the beautiful hall, the Capability Brown landscaped park and woodlands, as well as the 60-acre pool (see website for details). Attractions nearby include Penkridge Wharf and The Shropshire Union Canal, the RAF Museum at Cosford, The Potteries, Ironbridge Gorge Museum, Dudley Zoological Gardens, Stafford Castle, National Sea Life Centre and the Hoo Farm Animal Kingdom. Birmingham is just 30 minutes’ away, with train services running from Codsall, just 2½ miles away. With the historic towns of Ludlow and Worcester within easy driving distance, it truly is a perfect base. Shop, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

A very comfortable cottage, perfect for anyone seeking peace and quiet, but close enough, via narrow country roads, to pubs, restaurants and towns/cities.

Wonderful location and a cottage full of history and quirky artefacts. The best equipped kitchen in any cottage we have stayed in. We would visit again and there are wonderful National Trust houses in the vicinity.

We stayed here in March and although the weather was not good the cottage was warm with plenty of hot water. There was a problem with a smell of oil from the boiler, but we were warned about this a couple of days in advance. We were left a bottle of wine as an apology, but a discount might have been more appropriate as it was quite unpleasant. Otherwise, I would have rated this cottage higher. I'm sure it's been fixed now. Lovely quiet setting, very nice furnishings, although the day bed in the dressing room off the master bedroom could do with a better mattress, then it would be perfect.
