This spectacular barn conversion provides the ultimate romantic retreat. On the outskirts of the Forest of Bowland, there’s walking and cycling opportunities from the doorstep!

Hen Harrier Lodge is aptly named after the emblem bird of the Forest of Bowland which is one of the last remaining strongholds for breeding hen harriers in England.
The lodge itself has been designed and decorated to a good standard for comfort and luxury alike, combining work from local artists blended with contemporary and traditional furniture to create a romantic escape away from it all. The landscaped grounds and private patio allow you to enjoy the splendour of the local countryside in your own garden without needing to leave the property. On the very doorstep of Hen Harrier Lodge is the Forest of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which offers a variety of scenic walks, cycling routes or options to simply drive and enjoy the views. The gorgeous open plan kitchen, diner and living room makes for a very relaxing atmosphere. The main living area combined with its floor to ceiling bi-fold doors and contemporary fire, make it the ideal place to relax and enjoy the views across the stunning landscape. The property boasts a light and spacious bedroom designed with a sumptuous kingsize bed dressed in White Company linen and accompanied by cushions and throw. The occasional chair provides a great spot in the room to enjoy the flat screen TV or simply to enjoy a book. The room offers plentiful storage, full length mirror and dressing table with hairdryer and hair straighteners. The exquisite bathroom is super-luxurious with its large walk-in rainfall shower and complementary local artisan fragrance body care toiletries. The underfloor heating and heated towel rail keep the wonderfully fluffy White Company towels and dressing robes warm – totally divine.
The private patio with furniture and umbrella overlooking Hayshaw Fell and Catshaw Fell is a perfect spot to relax or dine. With the Trough of Bowland so close to the doorstep, the garden attracts a plethora of wildlife and the binoculars provided give you the opportunity to sit and observe the local fauna and flora at your leisure. In addition, bike storage can be arranged pre-arrival, offering the ability to explore the local area on two wheels. Cycle hire is available locally and guided cycling can be arranged with the owner. Local woodlands offer off-road and mountain biking courses. Local walking maps will be available for you along with advice on great routes to try.
Hen Harrier Lodge nestles on the border of the Trough of Bowland, 6 miles from Lancaster. The lodge is the perfect place for those wanting to explore the North West of England. With easy access to the M6 motorway, Hen Harrier Lodge gives you the ideal base to explore other areas from the hills of the Lake District National Park to the coastline of Morecambe Bay. The area is a mecca for those wishing to enjoy the fresh country air and explore the local footpaths or cycle the quite country lanes and byways. The popular sleepy market town of Garstang offers a variety of boutique shops, cafés and pubs, as well as a weekly Thursday market. The historic city of Lancaster boasts a wealth of restaurants, shops and pubs; if you fancy adding a bit of history and culture into your trip, then head up to the castle for stories of the famous Pendle witches. With just a 10-minute drive to Lancaster University, it offers a great place to stay whilst visiting children either studying or for graduation. For those wishing to enjoy the bright lights of Blackpool it is only a 40-minute drive. Although the local village of Dolphinholme is small, it does however boast a welcoming traditional English inn and restaurant offering a local shop within, selling local produce and essentials. Abbeystead village is set within the Abbeystead Estate owned by His Grace the Duke of Westminster and where he has a country house. Beach 16 miles. Shop and pub 1½ miles, restaurant 2¾ miles.

Hen Harrier Lodge is a lovely property decorated and furnished to a very high standard. The bedroom, kitchen area and patio are wonderful with a very comfortable bed. There were two issues we found with the property - the first being Internet/WiFi signals are very ‘hit and miss’ which prevented us from getting full use of both TVs along with our phones, iPad etc and the second is the seating in the lounge area. When looking at the photos of the lounge area the seating appears to be quite adequate, however the yellow chair is much smaller and lower than it looks and is extremely uncomfortable - which only leaves the 2 seater settee. As the weather wasn’t great we spent more time in the lodge and there was nowhere to stretch out and relax and I felt my husband and I spent a lot of time cramped up on the sofa. If the issues outlined above could be rectified we would have no hesitation in returning especially as the owners a great, accommodating people.

Hen Harrier Lodge is one of, if not the best, holiday property that we have rented in the last 40 years. It has good quality, tasteful furnishings and is very well equipped. It is situated in an extremely picturesque area in close proximity to the Trough of Bowland (a must) , Lancaster, the coast and the Lakes. Further, the welcome 'hamper, was a much appreciated nice touch.
We had absolutely nothing to complain about.

So clean and that's the most important thing!! Always warm. Plenty of space inside.
Would have liked a DVD player. We couldn't get iplayer to work so it was a case of just watching what was on. Not good. The view was more restricted than it looked online.

The quality of the finish, the level of items included, the friendly, careful attention of owners who couldn't have been nicer.
Although we knew it was fitted with one when we booked, smart TVs are quite restrictive as regards what you can and can't watch.
