Whether you want a quiet relaxing holiday or the excitement of a traditional seaside town, this pretty cottage will fit the bill.

Whether you want a quiet relaxing holiday or the excitement of a traditional seaside town, this pretty cottage will fit the bill.

Lovingly renovated and superbly furnished, this part thatched, detached cottage offers a peaceful setting in the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds. This is an ideal base to sit back and relax in the large garden, or enjoy a coffee and a good book in the shepherd’s hut which makes a lovely summerhouse. With great walks straight from the door, this is also a popular area for cyclists, with many good routes throughout the area. Spend a day at the coast and enjoy the quiet sandy beaches at Sandilands, or the traditional seaside resort of Skegness with its fairground and nature reserve at Gibraltar Point, all about a 30-minute drive away.
There are nearby market towns at Alford, the Georgian town of Louth, which still has 3 markets a week, and also Horncastle which is well known for its antique and collectables shops. A day out in Lincoln to the east is around a 40-minute drive with its cathedral, castle and Magna Carta Visitor Centre, as well as many excellent cafés and restaurants for refreshment in The Bailgate area, and also the area surrounding the wharf. In the evening, enjoy a stroll down the lane or along the bridleway and footpath to the village pub which serves good food and real ale. Beach 12 miles. Shop 2¾ miles, pub and restaurant 1¾ miles.

Excellent base and lovely walks and runs. You'll need to make your own entertainment but that's the point. Beautiful and quiet.

Although perfectly clean the bath and shower were awkward to use (bath too short, no shower screen). I banged my head on the low doorways several times. The smoke alarms went off several times, including during the first night ,until the owner came and replaced the batteries). The property is in an idyllic part of the countryside, but we'd not go there again as we prefer to go somewhere different each year.

the house was relatively comfortable but local amenities were compromised. I think the house needed a land-line telephone as the signal for mobile phones was very poor: even our iPads, and the small tv channels, were down for 24 hours! Somebody had cleaned a glass and placed it back in the cupboard, with a large lip-stick mark on the rim and side..: I think it should have been checked between users. The house was a reasonable prospect, but the poor reception gave it a harsher rating than otherwise deserved as we would have had to rely on neighbours should an emergency have cropped up. The bath was not at all suitable for the disabled; 'inclusive' design might be something worth considering; though in fairness, we have run into this last problem quite a lot. Lastly, the cottage lacked that 'homely' feel that (some) other cottages manage to capture; the general interiors were not really considered on a professional basis..

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Hill Farm Cottage is located in a picturesque, but small village and the local amenities are very typical for rural Lincolnshire. Indeed there may be a requirement for a landline phone on occasion as we accept that the mobile phone reception can be problematic (EE is excellent; Vodafone is variable) for some providers. For this reason we have installed superfast fibre optic broadband which enables internet-based communication using FaceTime, Skype, WhatsApp and Messenger amongst others. The television reception issue you experienced has only been reported by yourselves. We regret that you discovered a lipstick stained glass and again whilst this is the first comment of this sort, we consider cleanliness very seriously and will endeavour to make more stringent checks. We acknowledge that the bath is perhaps not practical for some disabled guests but the bathroom facilities are clearly displayed on the cottage website and, had a shower unit been your requirement, sadly our cottage was never going to be a suitable prospect for you which we feel you should have realised. We have worked hard to achieve what we consider to be a homely, practical and quality finish but feel that interior style is a matter of owner prerogative and not expected to appeal to each guest. We take an enormous pride in our cottage which is reflected in feedback from previous guests all of which have been extremely complementary.

Beautiful country cottage in a lovely village, the house was cosy and comfortable. Although the bathroom was nice it could have done with a walk in shower of some kind. But it did not detract from the stay. We would certainly recommend it to our friends and would stay again. Regards Mick, Sarah, Annie and Libby.
