Mersea Island is a wonderful and unusual location with main access to the island via a causeway, known as the Strood, which is covered on high spring tides. So, special attention must be paid to tide times gaining access to and from the island. This is the perfect spot for families and friends that love life by the sea. Sailing fans, walkers and nature lovers will be spoilt here. Food lovers will find plenty of family friendly pubs and restaurants to choose from including an oyster bar and restaurant with great views of the local community.
Island Retreat is an ideal touring base from which to explore the fabulous Mersea Island, famous for its oysters and Olympic sailing medallist, making it a perfect seaside retreat. East Mersea’s Cudmore Grove Country Park is a great find for those who prefer green open spaces and quieter spots. You can also take a boat trip around the bay or hop on the small foot ferry cross to Brightlingsea. Beach 1 mile. Shops, pub, restaurant, yacht club and water sports all within 1 mile.
