Offering the rare opportunity to stay in riverside York, this comfortable property enjoys great views while being near to the city centre.

This converted mill sited on the south bank of the River Ouse offers the rare opportunity to stay in riverside York. The large and comfortable living areas enjoy wonderful views over the river and make ‘staying in’ a pleasure as the ever changing picture of river and city life unfolds. Beautifully furnished and co-ordinated and with the rare benefit of secure private parking, it lies a few minutes’ walk from the centre of this vibrant, ancient city.
Jorvik - Woodsmill Quay at Queen’s Staithe is in the heart of York; it was originally built in the 19th century and used as a timber mill receiving consignments of wood from barges travelling up the river from Hull. York has been a key trading port since Roman times and the River Ouse remained tidal until the construction of nearby Naburn Locks in the 18th century. Queen’s Staithe played a prominent role in the commercial development of York and it’s still a working quay today.
During 2000, Jorvik - Woodsmill Quay was converted into luxury apartments offering all of York’s world-famous sights and activities right on the doorstep. An ideal holiday base for exploring York and touring the North Yorkshire Moors and the Dales. The seaside resorts of Filey, Scarborough and Whitby are within easy driving distance.

Stairs to first floor. Spacious living/dining room with maple floor, deep window seats (nestling within the original mill walls) with river views and well-equipped kitchen area. Master double bedroom with 5ft bed and en-suite shower room with toilet. Bedroom with pull-down double bed (access from one side of bed only, for +1). Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet.

We have stayed at Woodsmill Quay before in the Autumn of 2017, so knew what to expect for this Christmas break. Location is ideal for exploring the historic city of York. The apartment itself is very well equipped and very attractive with a stunning view of the river and the opposite bank. Since we stayed here last time, the bed has got a bit weary ( we both suffered back aches every morning), so the mattress might need replacing. We understand these holiday rentals get wear and tear, but it would be a good idea for someone with a screwdriver to go around and tighten things up a bit (the shower door, for example, had become very loose on its top hinge). Having said that, we thoroughly enjoyed our Christmas break and would certainly recommend this apartment.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We pride ourselves in keeping our apartment well maintained and comfortable for our guests and therefore we are disappointed that our returning guests found a problem with our recently replaced mattress. The mattress was renewed in August 2019 with a high quality John Lewis "Comfort support, medium tension pocket sprung mattress". Unfortunately even new mattresses are not ideal for everyone but we, the apartment owners, have found it to be extremely comfortable and supportive. We do regularly stay in the apartment ourselves with the aim of making sure that everything is as it should be and how we ourselves would like to find it. We will certainly be checking over the issues raised in Howard's review this coming week and appreciate the feedback our guests give to us. We also ask all guests to make sure our manager Margaret is aware of any problems at the time of their visit.

the furnishings were well worn particularly the leather sofas; both showers suffered very badly from black mold; cushions in lounge area dirty; found socks and a dressing robe in the wardrobe; dirty tea towel in washing machine only discovered towards the end of the stay, this caused a very unpleasant smell in the washer, we did not use; toaster was not working properly. Whilst the location was good and off street parking was a bonus the whole ambience of the apartment was poor. It badly needed a good in depth clean and all the tags on cupboard doors marked OWNERS made us feel like interlopers. It certainly did not warrant the price.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We were totally baffled to receive this review. Our sofas are expensive "antique style" soft leather sofas, they are extremely comfortable and they were professionally re-stuffed two years ago. Other guests have commented on how comfortable the sofas are. The cushions were not dirty. We leave clean dressing gowns in the apartment for guests to use. The tea towel in the washing machine, was not dirty it had unfortunately been left inside when emptied. The toaster was new last year but fortunately things break. We were unaware of the toaster not working, we rely on guests contacting our representative if anything is not working or indeed if they felt anything was wrong. Unfortunately, we were not contacted at any time during this visit. During 2019 we have eight reviews, seven of them giving us a score of 10 out of 10, one giving us 9 out of 10. The property also received The "Customers Choice" Award 2019, because it received an overall rating of 9.5 out of 10 (or higher) for the 2018 season through customer feedback.
