Kingfisher Cottage is a perfect place for a family break. Aptly named, you can even see the local kingfisher flying by from the garden. It is situated in the heart of Durham Dales, nestled in a row of charming cottages, and is in a fabulous location for families who appreciate the great outdoors. Each room has been beautifully decorated and furnished throughout, with all those extra finishing touches, including a welcome pack on your arrival.

After a day out exploring the area and taking in the clean country air, the beamed kitchen with original bread oven is perfect to prepare an evening meal. During the evening you may wish to retire into the cosy living room which has a wood burner and original stone walls. The enclosed garden at the rear of the cottage is perfect to relax on those warm summer evenings, with the soothing sound of the river running by and views of the gorse covered fell.

All three bedrooms are comfortably furnished. One of the twin bedrooms has a traditional feature fireplace. The second twin bedroom with en-suite has a sloping ceiling and a Velux window creating a light and airy feeling. It also enjoys views of the garden and river.

When you are ready to explore the area, the ancient and historic market town of Bishop Auckland is 8 miles away, and Barnard Castle, with its Georgian and Victorian architecture, is 10 miles away. The North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where you will find many walking and cycling routes, is within easy reach. There are also numerous footpaths which lead directly along the river and through the hills where you can spend the entire day walking, without having to use the car.

Kingfisher Cottage is situated only a short drive away from Bishop Auckland which will play host to the magical Kynren Eleven Arches Spectacular from July to September 2017.

Kynren - an epic tale of England, is set to be a historical extravaganza with a cast of over 1000 people and set over 7.5 acres of County Durham. It promises 14 action packed and movie-like performances of colossal and dazzling proportions. The shows will incorporate a full-size lake with pyrotechnics, stunning lighting and water effects making a true spectacle in every sense of the word!

Cosy, beamed living room with wood-burning stove, original stone walls and wooden floor. Beamed kitchen with original bread oven. First floor: Double bedroom with TV. Twin bedroom with TV.
