Little Barn offers walking, cycling and fishing right from the doorstep and is ideal for exploring Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

Little Barn is a beautifully presented detached barn situated on an equestrian centre with sheep and hens, and is surrounded by the beautiful countryside of Derbyshire. This delightful retreat is just perfect for a romantic getaway at any time of the year. It is adjacent to a golf course so you can play a round of golf, or why not take advantage of the footpaths into open countryside which are available on the doorstep? Alternatively a 5-minute drive will bring you to an abundance of walking, cycling and horse riding trails. After an adventurous day out you can relax on the patio and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the countryside and admire the stunning view over the hills.
All on one level and with the owner living on-site, Little Barn features a bright open plan living area with wooden floors throughout. Lovingly furnished in its own unique style and with subtle lighting, this retreat is ideal for a break in the countryside. Snuggle up on the large leather sofa in front of the TV with a glass of your favourite tipple. When you decide to retire for the evening you will find a comfortable double bed where you can relax and enjoy the tranquil scenery through the patio doors.
Little Barn is perfect for enjoying the delights of the area. Why not pay a visit to the National Trust’s Hardwick Hall, built in the 1590s, and the original water mill, still in operation and open to visitors. If you don’t feel like cooking after a day out the villages of Higham and Wessington are nearby where you will find country pubs serving food and real ale.

This property is very small, the size of a double garage/ studio. There is very little room to put things e.g. No wardrobe to hang clothes, no cupboard space in kitchen to store foodstuff that you bring with you on holiday. The seating throughout is uncomfortable , even outside the chairs are metal and hard to sit on. The property is clean though and the scenery around is lovely, there are good dog walks from the property. The owner is very helpful, there is an induction hob in the property which is not the easiest to operate, and one of the frying pans was not suitable for induction this was replaced very quickly when this was mentioned. Access to the place is down a long unmetalled track which is full of pot holes . Overall felt the price for this very small accommodation was way too high ,and did not represent good value at all.

Response on behalf of the owner: We were disappointed to read your review following such positive comments in our guest book and face to face. We understand that we cannot please everyone all the time but we certainly do try. I would like to take the opportunity to respond as your comments do not reflect the very positive feedback we have had from others during our first season. Our cottage is compact but true to the images on the website, it has been designed to offer a comfortable, relaxing space for your break. We have increased the amount of clothes storage space in the bedroom and there is a large fridge freezer, sideboard, and kitchen unit for storage. I will however look at additional shelves that can be added to these units. The furniture inside consists of leather sofa, large chair with footstool for relaxing. Outside we have a wooden bench and a bistro set. At any point during your stay we are always happy to resolve issues but this cannot be done unless you tell us. I personally delivered you a new frying pan along with fresh eggs from our hens. There were other pans you could have used but you specified non-stick was your preference and the non-stick one that was in the cottage was not compatible with the job, but we rectified this straight away, our rural road services the golf club, neighbouring farms and our business. People use the road in small cars every day, it isn’t a smooth tarmac road but represents country access and as the access is also a bridleway prevents cars speeding on a narrow lane. However, we are pleased you enjoyed our beautiful location and miles of direct walks from the cottage which do many others have enjoyed during their stay.

The views from the cottage were beautiful, the owners were very friendly and helpful and the cottage was close to the Derwent Valley which in itself was lovely to visit. We hope to be able to have a return visit in the near future.

Just as described on website. Lovely owners and romantic setting. Only drawback was the single track access road full of potholes ( suitable for 4x4s only). Handy for Chatsworth, Bakewell, Matlock and good for walks and cycling. Kitchen too small for serious self catering but otherwise very comfortable assuming owner adds storage for clothing, coatstands, etc as recommended by guests.

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your feedback, we are so pleased you enjoyed the surroundings at Little Barn and your time exploring Derbyshire. Following valued customer feedback we have increased the storage in the Bedroom and constantly look at ways we can make our valued customers stay as comfortable as possible. With regards to the access road to the Farm Pit Lane this lane is suitable for all types of cars as it is the access road to the Golf club and our equestrian business. The lane is not part of the main highway so there are areas that are uneven but we have had no complaints from customers that use the road in hatchback / small cars on a daily basis.

Simply the best! Having stayed in many country cottages over the years this one doesn't have an equal. Lovely cottage, beautifully presented in a stunning location and with owners who couldn't have been more charming or welcoming. Loved the horses, lots to do and country pubs to relax and eat in, what could be better. Underground at the Speedwell Caverns and overground at the Heights of Abraham, walks accross breathtaking countryside with our dog, exploring the shops in Matlock and the pudding in Bakewell! We would love to do it again, soon.
