Set within landscaped grounds, this wonderful property offers spacious, grand and well-planned accommodation for an experience to be remembered.

Lumsdale House was built by the local mill owner in 1970 in the National Heritage listed conservation area in the heart of the Lumsdale Valley. It lies on the edge of Matlock, which is full of historical interest and natural beauty. Approached by electric gates and a gravelled driveway leading to a large turning circle, this beautiful property enjoys views over stunning landscaped gardens, with large ponds and various seating areas. The garden has its Joseph Paxton trademark features and has been given a whole new lease of life by the owner who is a botanical garden designer. There are various seating and dining areas and a sweeping lawn leading to a top pond which cascades into the main pond with views towards Tansley. The property itself is entered by a spacious reception hall with its original mouldings, ceiling rose, coving and oak-clad pillars either side. Guests have the choice of a drawing room or living room which has a wood-burning stove in the original stone fireplace and French doors to both sides one leading to the enclosed decking area and another set into the fabulous orangery. The orangery boasts a York flagstone floor with olive trees, a water feature, original vines and a stove, and makes a perfect place in which to enjoy a relaxing evening drink.
Within the property the breakfast kitchen is fully equipped and even has its own temperature controlled wine store and matching fridge/freezer with integrated water/ice machine. A separate study and drawing room, four large bedrooms, a single bedroom and en-suites with roll-top, freestanding claw-foot baths make this property the ideal retreat to spend time at whilst enjoying the wonderful sights of the Peak District.

Fantastic house well equipped. Plenty of space for our family gathering to celebrate a 60th birthday. Lovely secluded spot but within 5 minutes drive of local amenities.

We were a group of friends who hired the house for the weekend. We absolutely loved it and would return. Both the owner and caretaker were really helpful and informative in advance and during our stay and the caretaker was available if we needed anything and was happy to help. The house itself was stunning. There was plenty of room for 10 of us though note one of the bedrooms is a single soon so we had to pull a single mattress from another room so 2 people could sleep in it. The garden was great. There were lots of board games to play and the house was well equipped for groups. We were blessed with the weather so spent most of our time outside but would love to return in winter as am sure it will be equally impressive then. The only thing I would change is that I wish we booked for 3 rather than 2 nights.

We had a lovely weekend at Lumsdale House. We were 6 adults and 3 children. It was really well equipped with just about everything you could possibly need - the owners had thought of everything! The rooms were huge and there was so much space downstairs. We ate in both nights making full use of the well equipped kitchen and great big dining room. The showers were fantastic (but didn't work so well when someone else was having a shower in another bathroom at the same time!). The only thing that would have improved our weekend was a bit more sunshine and some work on the circular garden immediately outside the house! The garden was beautiful but was a bit let down by the circular garden being full of weeds and overgrown - it would have been stunning with a bit of work. We would definitely go back again if the opportunity arose.
