Heavily beamed, impressive Grade II listed, cruck-beamed barn, suitable for larger groups of family or friends, Symonds Yat and Forest of Dean neaby.

With its six en-suite bedrooms, this heavily beamed, impressive Grade II listed, cruck-beamed barn stands tucked away in tranquil meadows, on the owners’ 200-acre farm. The barn enjoys magnificent views over the surrounding countryside towards the Forest of Dean. The medieval cruck-beamed wing, open to full height, was built in the 15th century and now makes up the living area with gallery. The heavily beamed 16th-century wing has been thoughtfully restored to provide comfortable en-suite accommodation. The barn is particularly suitable for family holidays and reunions, and the dining area is perfect for entertaining. There is a large mature garden where seating is provided in quiet spots to fully appreciate the views and bird life. Colourful trees and shrubs lead the way to a 1-acre games lawn where croquet, garden skittles and children’s swings can be enjoyed. There are walks from the door in this area of Great Landscape Value.
Hereford (12 miles) offers a good selection of shops, restaurants and pubs. The cider industry here is very prolific and enthusiasts should visit local cider makers and Hereford Cider Museum. Other places of interest include Hereford Cathedral, Mappa Mundi Centre and the chained library. The Herefordshire/Welsh borderland offers an excellent range of walks suitable for all ages and levels and enjoys fabulous panoramic views with many historic castles and beautiful ancient churches to explore. Ross-on-Wye, 8 miles, with 17th-century Market Hall is an ideal start for exploring the Forest of Dean. Monmouth, 6 miles. Symonds Yat, 8 miles. Welsh border, 1 mile. Shop 400 yards, local inns serving food, 2 miles.

This is a tricky one as some of it is down to personal preference, The bedrooms could do with updating, quite a few of us found the beds far to soft but one guy had the best sleep he had in ages! Having bathrooms in every bedroom was awesome but most of us found the showers to be cramped. The notes dotted around the house explaining things felt shabby, also being asked to strip down the bedrooms before we left coupled with a 10am departure felt a little rushed and a bit behind the times. The size of the kitchen, having two cookers, two fridges and the way the rest was equipped was great. The size of the kitchen table was also great as it meant we could all sit together for a meal. Having two lounges was also a real treat as it meant we could talk or watch tv as we wished. The property and grounds with the views are stunning! Our dogs had the best time ever, it was had to bring them in but being enclosed meant we didn’t need to worry over much. The general location was also very well situated for sightseeing as well.

Meadow barn is absolutely perfect for a large get-together of friends of all ages. We held our 17th annual Christmas reunion here and it fitted our needs beautifully. The barn itself is stunning. The stone and wood construction, with loads of natural light coming in from both sides makes for a jaw-dropping first impression. All the bedrooms are well-sized, with spotlessly clean bathrooms and configured to suit any party (Kings, Doubles, Twins, Triples etc etc). The Kitchen/Dining/Lounge and Mezzanine all in one huge space allows for a really sociable occassion. Catering is a breeze - we turned out a Christmas Dinner for 14 without an ounce of stress- with 2x ovens, 2x hobs and a beautiful kitchen island, and cupboards stocked with literally EVERYTHING one might need to weigh, whisk, chop, mix, roast and so on. We do this party every year, and you'll struggle to find a kitchen better suited than this. As for the setting, it was lovely to be in such beautiful, quiet countryside and on a working farm. Phil and Sarah the hosts were so helpful and welcoming throughout the whole process. If you're having any doubts.... don't!
