The historic and picturesque market town of Barnard Castle can be easily reached within a seven mile drive and offers guests the opportunity to explore the popular Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle and Raby Castle, as well as the weekly farmer’s market and quaint high street. The Georgian market town of Richmond is just seven miles away in the opposite direction and once again is a great location for guests wanting to visit the castle, theatre, market place and also indulge in one of the many traditional tea shops and bakeries there. The cathedral city of Durham is only a 30 minute drive away and offers guests the opportunity to explore this World Heritage Site. The university campuses can easily be reached within a 35 minute drive making Mill Cottage the ideal spot for parents and friends wishing to visit students and loved ones for graduation ceremonies and taster weeks. A little further afield but still within an hour’s drive are Catterick Races, Masham, Harrogate, Ripon, Thirsk and York. It is a perfect base for walkers, ramblers and cyclists with many established public footpaths, riverside walks, cycle paths and bridleways that lead through some of the most unspoilt countryside that Yorkshire and County Durham has to offer. There is a local pub just a couple of miles away which serves excellent food and drink as well as a locally respected farm shop, which offers produce from the local area.
