This cottage is tucked away in an ideal spot to experience the beautiful area of Rye with its wonderful scenery.

This cottage is tucked away in an ideal spot to experience the beautiful area of Rye with its wonderful scenery.

From the moment you head up its rough country lane and arrive at the property, you’ll see that the Old Dairy Barn is not your everyday holiday lodging. Surrounded by lush greenery with nothing but the sheep to count as neighbours, you can’t get much closer to Mother Nature short of sleeping in the field!

This old barn conversion offers holiday goers the quintessential respite in the country; perfect for escaping from the hectic city life. Holding true to its roots, the barn keeps its rustic ambience with traditional wooden beams, wooden flooring and a cosy wood-burning stove. There’s a certain warmth emanating from the barn that really makes you feel at home; you’d be forgiven for spending the first few days with your feet up and the TV on, but also mistaken in thinking that’s all this property has to offer.

The property is a short cycle away from Playden; a quiet rural village that featured in the Domesday Book. Owing to the town’s cobbled roads and Tudor architecture complete with black-and-white facades, Wye has a real old-world feel, and is a must for visitors staying in East Sussex. Nestled on the border of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in close proximity to the coast, visitors of the Old Dairy Barn have access to the best of both worlds – thick green country hills to the west, and Camber’s vast golden stretches to the south.

But the fun doesn’t stop there, with other points of interest in the area including Winchelsea, Battle and Hastings. Rye Harbour Site of Special Scientific Interest is sure to appeal to birdwatchers - as a protected nature reserve, it’s a safe haven for an array of animal life, where some 279 species of bird have been recorded. So be it a day’s sandcastle-building and sunbathing, or cycling and walking, there’s truly something for everyone at the Old Dairy Barn.

great cottage in a quiet location - they really should sort the track to the cottage. It is very rough, surely the residents of the road/track could club together to pay for improvements. Nice pub down the road and the historic town of Rye close by. The Romney,Hythe & Dymchurch minature railway is not far away. Several vineyards close by - mainly sparkling wine.

Response on behalf of the owner; Many thanks for your comments, and we really hope that you will visit us again. For the benefit of potential visitors: the short farm track to the barn is rather rough, but is very easily passable at low speed. It is maintained to the satisfaction of the other twenty or so residents who use it daily. The biggest ‘humps’ are deliberately included to take water off the track and into the adjacent ditch. If rural tracks are not your thing, then some visitors may not wish to choose Old Dairy Barn, but if it is taken at low speed the track is absolutely fine.

Delightful 4 nights at The Old Dairy Barn to celebrate a 90th birthday ! Perfect accommodation to have with 2 aged ladies as all on the flat. Nice bedrooms and great power showers. Comfortable lounge & dining area. Lovely bright area with big windows looking out over great countryside and uninterrupted views. Would definitely return one day if looking to go to this area. Met David the owner who came to meet and greet us which was very nice and he was very charming chap.

Lovely cottage, well equipped and clean (odd spiderweb spotted on the ceiling beams). Very close to Rye which is walkable. The track to the cottage is rough but navigable. Comfortable, great showers and enough seating for everyone. Internet access ran out very quickly with everyone using wifi. Friendly welcome from the owner who is very happy to help with any queries and nice welcome pack of goodies on arrival. Happy to recommend this cottage after an enjoyable stay.

David was a very obliging host. He even let us have a lie in on the departure day, and the welcome pack very tasty. The barn was fully equipped down to torches which were essential for our trip to the pub. A delightful weekend and would love to return.
