Guests can enjoy a local distillery, found 7 miles away has a lovely visitor attraction and serves good food daily. There is tennis, riding and golf, as well as good fishing locally and excellent bird watching from the farm, as well as the chance to spot the occasional red squirrel and deer, whilst it is a short drive to Osprey Watch at Dodd Wood Bassenthwaite. Shop 4 miles. There is a good choice of pubs and restaurants locally (including vegetarian). The pretty village of Caldbeck is 4 miles, with a restaurant, tea rooms and shops. Maes Gallery and tea rooms serving food daily is within 1 mile. Uldale is 2 miles with a pub serving good food, and Ireby is 1½ miles away with a cosy pub with log fire and good food.

Rosedale is a lovely place to stay. Isabel and Alan are perfect hosts, from the milk, wine, chocolates and cream tea as a welcome, to the advice about the area. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The cottage is one of 4 around a courtyard, with the owners house in addition. There was sufficient parking space at all times (although not all cottages were occupied) but I wouldn't think there would ever be a problem. I have only scored 9's because: comfort and equipment - the washing machine and dryer is a shared facility location - the cottage is at the northern edge of the Lake District so guests will probably want to drive to various towns / fells / lakes etc local amenities - the nearest shop and pubs / restaurants are a drive away We knew all this before we went so not an issue for us All in all, a very pleasant week and I would happily stay there again
