The cottage is clean and pleasant, the views are gorgeous. We stayed during summer - the average outside temperature was between 17-20 degrees each day. Inside the cottage the temperature was 28-30 degrees. We could only attribute this to two possible causes - the enormous boiler/s (there are two units over 6ft tall in the kitchen cupboard) which must power more than one cottage outputting significant heat, and the previous week's unusual hot weather. We suspect the cottage had been vacant the previous week, with all windows closed and containing a significant amount of heat. Unfortunately, when we asked to move cottages, Jayne couldn't accommodate us, she said all other cottages were booked. The cottage next door remained vacant throughout our stay, so this evidently wasn't the case. She was also unable to supply a fan, so we bought one at personal expense (which we've left there for future occupants). Her recommendation was to spray cold water onto the duvet and supplied a water sprayer for this purpose. We obviously didn't do this - adding any sort of covering in that level of heat would be stiflingly uncomfortable, and a SIDS risk for our toddler. We had to move the king mattress into one of the single bedrooms to be able to get any sleep at all. It was a very expensive four nights in a sauna, we won't be returning or recommending.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; The weather has been very kind to the North East Coast over the past couple of months and we have seen lots of beautiful sunshine and soaring temperatures. The weather was particularly hot during this guest’s stay and I am sure everybody would have been feeling the effects of the summer heatwave. The property uses a ground source heat pump which is climate controlled. The units situated in the Kitchen were not switched on at the time of the guests stay and haven’t been for a good few months, due to the weather. Haydock Cottage sits between Scarborough Cottage (IXH) and Yerborough Cottage (IXF), both of which were occupied during the time of the guests stay (this has been confirmed with the Agency). Guest satisfaction is our main priority and we will always try to accommodate our visitor’s requests. Fans are not provided in the Cottages and we have not received a request as such previously. The breeze from the North Sea often sees the North East Coast a little cooler than the rest of the UK which is often welcomed during hot, summer days. The most effective way to keep a property cool is by keeping the curtains closed and the windows open / on latch. A separate sheet and spray bottle were also provided however, the suggestions were not taken on board by the guests. The Agency Terms & Conditions ask that guests leave the property in a similar condition as it was found upon arrival. Unfortunately, we found that the majority of the furniture in the upstairs rooms had been moved and although returned to the original positions, caused significant damage to walls and door frames.
