In many respects, Troutbeck Cottage offers the quintessential English holiday experience – encompassed by lush green pastureland, with the North Sea glistening on the horizon, the surrounding terrain offers a broad range of attractions and activities to try.

The cottage itself is a beautiful building with high vaulted ceilings supported by chunky wooden beams. One of its most appealing features is Troutbeck Cottage’s intrinsic, traditional charms, which are sure to leave you aching to return again and again. The cottage’s interiors have been well-thought through, combining a seamless blend of traditional style and design with many contemporary amenities. The open-plan of the living/dining room/kitchen retains a warm, homely vibe thanks to the wood burner, and with a patio area, you can wine and dine outdoors. Be you recently-met, star-crossed lovers or long-since married, this property offers a break to spend quality time with your other half in a most evocative setting.

The property occupies an idyllic location on the edge of Scarborough, a classic seaside town that’s held firm to its traditional appeal and vibrant atmosphere despite receiving visitors for over 300 years. With clifftop walks passing nearby, you can don your walking boots and head out along the Cleveland Way right from the front door. Keen surfers won’t be disappointed with what’s on offer along the beach, nor will the peaceful picnickers who’d rather sit back in a deck chair and watch the waves roll in. Scarborough’s famous esplanade has been the backdrop to many a TV and film set, such as The Royal and Heartbeat, and there’s a 12th-century castle to seduce medieval history enthusiasts. You can head to the Scarborough Open Air Theatre, the largest open-air theatre in Europe, or head to the bird sanctuary of Bempton Cliffs.

To the south of the property are Bridlington, Filey and a number of historic, National Trust-owned estates, or for a change of scenery, head inland to the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the North York Moors. Hire a couple of bikes and cycle round Dalby Forest. The Minster city of York is easily accessible, as is Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes.

All on the ground floor.

Great little cottage. We had good weather and sat in small front garden every evening soaking up the sun. Nearby coastal path every morning for a walk and jog. Visited Whitby, (and steps to the abbey) Filey (nice and quiet) Robin Hood Bay (pub at top of hill with view) Sewerby Park run, Bridlington, Scarborough, York (boat trip) (shambles) Thornton Le Dale, Pickering (Steam Train) Goathland (Heartbeat set) Helmsley. I think we did it all and it was all great, but we did have fantastic weather.

We stayed at Scalby Lodge last year with our family in The Barn and had a wonderful time so decided to come again just on our own. We were not disappointed. Troutbeck was just as lovely and comfortable. I am sure we will come again.

Everything you need in a cottage. Very well equipped and very comfortable bed!!! Would recommend to any one with or without a dog. Walks with your dog on the Clevedon Way every morning was a bonus, being the cottage was so close to the sea. Many places to get to and see.

Troutbeck Cottage was really lovely, extremely clean and well maintained. The welcome pack was very good and having milk when we arrived was a nice touch too. The bed was a good size and very comfortable too. The location was excellent with fantastic views, we all enjoyed the wonderful walks (especially our whippet). It was in an excellent location, close to scenic villages and also Scarborough a traditional seaside town. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back again.
