A beautiful property furnished and styled to an exceptional standard. The perfect place to shut off from the world or 8 minutes into the centre of Bakewell with its abundance of offerings. Extremely high quality and tasteful furnishings throughout. The kitchen is in proportion and complete with far more conveniences than expected.

We have stayed in 5* cottages before and this did not measure up. The kitchen was the main disappointment not because of the amenities it contained but the lack of space. By the time the fridge, cooker and sink had been fitted there was very little room for work surface which created problems for laying out plates. More of kitchenette than a kitchen. My husband was also disappointed that there was no off road parking for the car which he would have expected for a 5* cottage. We have since booked with another company with whom we have stayed before in a 5* cottage which is definitely 5* and the price is roughly the same. Big disappointment.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We’re sorry that you and your husband were dissatisfied with the kitchen and the parking. We wanted to respond to both points. Sheepwalk Cottage is a 17th century, Grade II listed property and would not originally have had a kitchen. Due to its listing we are constrained by the layout of the property. There is a very clear photo on the website that accurately shows the kitchen layout and its work surface. We had a chef stay at the cottage and he commented how well equipped the kitchen is with everything needed. As you say, the amenities are comprehensive, with a hob / cooker, fridge / freezer, dishwasher, microwave, and washing machine. As regards, the off-road parking, Stanton in the Peak is a traditional 17th century Peak District village, where properties of this age are very unlikely to have a dedicated off-road space. There is parking for at least one car in front of the cottage and it is very rare that parking is unavailable either in front or within a few yards of the cottage. There will certainly be 5 star properties with bigger kitchens and ones with dedicated off-road parking, but few with the charm of Sheepwalk and its beautiful, generous living-space. The 9 and 10 out of 10 scores that precede yours demonstrate that people do recognise that the cottage lives up to its rating. We do hope that our response reflects the fact that we take all review comments very seriously, but that we do firmly believe that the cottage thoroughly justifies its 5 star status. This is also backed up by Cottages.com, who’s area manager has graded us a 5 star in accordance with Visit England guidelines.
