Simpers Drift is a perfect romantic getaway for exploring pretty Suffolk villages, country estates and the coast.

Simpers Drift is a perfect romantic getaway for exploring pretty Suffolk villages, country estates and the coast.

Located, just off the A12 in Suffolk, in the quiet village of Great Glemham, Simpers Drift is a lovingly converted detached dairy, in the grounds of the owner’s home, with stunning high ceilings, original features throughout and fabulous modern touches. The cosy wood burner is ideal for those cooler evenings and a mature garden and sprawling grounds to explore outside.
Surrounding the property, you will find an excellent network of walks and cycle routes meandering through the pretty Suffolk villages, both country and coastal. The National Trust owned Sutton Hoo is only a 15-minute drive away, and the nearby Dunwich Heath is within 25 minutes. A 35-minute drive is the Port of Felixstowe and its beaches with the passenger foot and bike Ferry leaving from Landguard Fort to Historic Harwich and Shotley, this is provided by award winning Harwich Harbour Ferry Services who also run excellent seal watching trips all year round. The nearby Woodland Trust area Pound Farm is a wonderful mix of woodland, orchard, grassy race, wildflower meadow and ponds of 250 acres which is nearly all fenced, ideal for those with four-legged guests! This part of Suffolk boasts many country estates for visiting including, Helmingham Hall, Crows Hall and Hevingham Hall. All with gardens, history and culture to explore. Framlingham is well worth a visit, its castle a particular highlight along with excellent restaurant, pubs and shops. Simpers Drift is near Snape Maltings which is famous for being Benjamin Britten’s concert hall and only 6 miles from the seaside town of Aldeburgh. Also nearby and well worth a visit is the RSPB Nature Reserve at Minsmere and approximately 35 minutes away is the coastal town of Southwold and the village of Walberswick. June and Nick Wright are wonderful hosts and have a lovely and well-appointed property at Great Glemham. Perfect for two. Only one minor caveat: you have to be careful not to bang your head on the beams upstairs, unless you are only 5'2". No shop in the village, but a decent pub with grub within easy walking distance, and an excellent farm shop just down the road in the next village.

We had a five night stay at Simpers Drift, with our dog Dylan, and had a great time in an excellent cottage. Simpers Drift is comfortable, well equipped, immaculately clean and in a great, peaceful location. June and Nic are excellent hosts. Lots of places to visit nearby and the local pub, The Crown, is just a short walk away and it does very good food. We are looking forward to visiting the area again and will stay at Simpers Drift. Highly recommended.

My husband and I had a fabulous long weekend stay at Simpers Drift in early December. The cottage is comfortable, spotless, well-equipped, cozy and warm. I hope to return to Simpers Drift next year.

Gorgeous, well equipped little cottage in an excellent location with good local walks and easy access to Suffolk coast. Super dog friendly, warm hospitality from hosts and fridge stocked with some basics and a few delicious treats (wonderful marmalade and cheese). We had a really nice stay!

Lovely well equipped quality cottage, very clean and set amid some fruit trees. Small seating area outside of cottage. Being an old building there is a low ceiling, this one is in the bedroom so not too bad, I am 6ft 2 and coped ok. Nice quiet location, owners very helpful and friendly. We took two bikes and were given somewhere to store them. We only went for three nights, wished more as there are lots of walks and cycling available. There is farm nearby "White house farm", which houses various craft shops, items being made on the site. Local pub "we think the Crown?", provides food above the normal pub standard and is only ten mins walk away, great I did not have to cook. Warning take a small torch with you, there are no street lights. Will certainly look to book here again.
