Surrounded by beautiful countryside, this fantastic Grade II listed property makes an ideal base for a relaxing break discovering the history of the area.

Surrounded by beautiful countryside, this fantastic Grade II listed property makes an ideal base for a relaxing break discovering the history of the area.

Enjoying a peaceful and quiet, rural location, Springhead is a large, Grade II listed detached property that’s able to accommodate up to eight guests and is dog friendly too. Located in the civil parish of Parham, the property was previously part of an Elizabethan house and estate, Parham Park, and part of the house is reputed to be medieval. The Monastery of Westminster originally owned the estate, and in 1540 King Henry VIII bestowed it upon Robert Palmer. Today the manor house and 875-acre gardens at Parham is open to the public to visit and contains an important collection of needlework, paintings and furniture.

Springhead provides spacious country house accommodation for friends and families throughout the year and has its own outdoor swimming pool and sauna. It offers a spacious twin bedroom on the ground floor with an en-suite shower and toilet, ideal for less mobile guests. This superb property is surrounded by beautiful countryside and farmland, and directly across from the property you will be able to see the pigs out in their field, whilst from the rear of the house you will be able to see the sheep grazing in the fields behind. During the summer months, enjoy the spacious garden with its ample patio area for a memorable barbecue. In the winter, after a brisk short walk to the local pub, which dates back to the 15th century, you can return to the house and relax by the roaring open fire.

For walking and riding enthusiasts, the location is ideal as you are in the South Downs National Park. Explore the plentiful bridleways and footpaths leading from the doorstep. The nearby village of Storrington offers a good selection of shops catering for most daily needs, including a supermarket, as well as a number of independent traders and gift and antique shops. There are also a number of excellent pubs and restaurants to visit within the locality.

Nearby attractions include Arundel Castle and Goodwood Racecourse and Goodwood Motor Circuit, which are the homes of the infamous Goodwood Festival of Speed, Goodwood Revival and Glorious Goodwood. There are also plenty of outdoor activities nearby to keep you entertained, including horse riding, canoeing on the River Arun, gliding at Parham or polo at Cowdray Park. Golf can be found at the West Sussex Golf Club nearby, or why not pack a picnic and take a trip down south to the stunning Sussex coast, which is within easy reach by car. Whether it’s for a short break or a longer stay, there’s plenty to keep you busy in this beautiful part of West Sussex. The nearest mainline station is 4 miles distance at Pulborough, with train services to Victoria/London Bridge and Gatwick Airport. Beach 11 miles. Shop 1¼ miles, pub ¼ mile and restaurant ¾ mile.

Lovely, homely, comfortable property perfect for our celebration weekend. Well equipped. We had roughly 20 guests for an afternoon/evening get together and it had plenty of crockery and glasses. The weather could have been better, but we still used the swimming pool which was well heated. The property is old and the outside was quite scruffy and cobwebby - we didn't mind this at all, but I think it would be improved with some window and exterior paintwork cleaning.

An absolutely wonderful place to stay full of charm, character & history. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner John who couldn’t have been more helpful and informative about the property. Could we find any fault or complaints with our stay absolutely not we would certainly stay again and would certainly recommend to anyone thank you so much. Clive & Lynda

We had a wonderful week at Springhead with our family (boys 17, 15 and 12). We loved the garden and the pool, and the house was extremely comfortable and well equipped with everything you could possibly need for your stay.

Our overall impression was that the owners had not entirely moved out. So many untidy dead plants in the house and garden, gave an unkempt look to everything. It is a lovely old house but the interiors need freshening up. The light in the Windows was blocked out with 'stuff' and plants. In the evenings, it felt like Wolf Hall. We thought we were going to have a few days of luxury and were disappointed.

Response on behalf of the owner; We are aware the weather was not good during your stay at Springhead and we were sorry you were left feeling disappointed. It's not quite the same without the sunlight streaming through the windows indoors and being able to enjoy being outside too, we like to create a really homely atmosphere for our guests and it is a much loved home that we hope others will enjoy too. We will of course take on your helpful feedback and ensure that the garden and indoor plants are being very well cared for and maintained in our absence in future.

We had a great time at Springhead, on the plus side, there is loads to do in the area, plus great walking. The house is a real old style house with lots of history and furniture to suit. The pub is an easy walk and serves good basic food! On the minus side perhaps just a few teething issues to iron out as we were the first guests...eg changing position of fridge from utility room to main kitchen...plus some deep cleaning in main en suite bedroom to do. Overall a lovely house, Mort was very helpful and would definitely recommend it.
