Kirkby-in-Furness is a village near the coast located on the Furness peninsula. It is close to The Lake District National Park, about 5 miles north west of Ulverston and 8 miles south of Coniston Water. This pretty village offers a village shop and post-office and a couple of village pubs within walking distance. Ulverston is a busy town with many shops, bars, and a couple of well known supermarkets, plus a great choice of restaurants and a golf course. Kirkby-in-Furness is a great base from which to explore The Lake District National Park and the West Cumbrian Coast. If you like walking, climbing, hiking, cycling or sightseeing, then a short drive into The National Park is an outdoor-lover’s playground. For family fun, try the La’al Ratty, a miniature steam railway running from Ravenglass to Dalegarth. Muncaster Castle offers daily activities including mini golf, beautiful gardens and falconry displays.

We visited Stone Arthur for my husbands 40th birthday, with a mixed group including young children and 2 dogs. The cottage was immaculate, with excellent facilities. The house is perfect for large groups, the large kitchen is excellent for socialising and has everything you need if you would like to cook during your stay. The 2nd floor loft bedroom with sitting area and ensuite bathroom is stunning and has beautiful views to the coast but due to steep stairs would not be suitable for anyone with mobility difficulties. All of the bedrooms and bathrooms are good sizes and are beautifully presented. The games room and large projector with Disney+ kept the children entertained of an evening and the hot tub was perfect for relaxing in after a day out walking. Whilst we didn't get to spend much time in the garden due to the weather, it was perfect for the dogs as it was large and fully secured. The garden was beautifully maintained and had plenty of seating, a bbq area and a lovely play area for young children. The extra touches at Stone Arthur really made our stay from the beautiful toiletries, to the dog toys and treats that had been left for us including bottles of prosecco, sweets, biscuits and popcorn. The owner also left my husband a lovely birthday card and case of beer for him to celebrate with it. The cottage has a small local shop over the road which we found very handy and the local pub was around 50 yards away. We visited the local beach which was a 15 min drive and which was ideal for both the dogs and children. Ulverston was also a short drive away. The owner Patricia was extremely helpful and reccomended local walks and takeaways to us. We look forward to visiting Stone Arthur again soon!
