This fairy tale, stone-built, traditional detached cottage can be found tucked away in a prime position within the heart of Hathersage. Surrounded by gardens and greenery, the cottage itself has been fully renovated throughout and includes a beautiful spacious kitchen/dining room and cosy lounge complete with wood burner. Hathersage itself is an attractive village with a range of pubs, shops and cafes, and the surprising luxury of an outdoor heated swimming pool (summer opening only) just two minutes’ walk from the property. Continually buzzing with climbing, walking and cycling enthusiasts alike, Hathersage lies above the River Derwent, and has historical associations with both Robin Hood and Charlotte Bronte. The famous authoress was inspired to write Jane Eyre whilst staying at the Hathersage vicarage, and took the name of local Eyre family (of whom the owners of Tantivy House are descendants) for her heroine. North Lees Hall, a local Elizabethan manor house, was the inspiration for the home of Mr Rochester. Beyond Hathersage, the magnificent historic houses of Chatsworth House (the setting for Mr Darcy’s home Pemberley in Jane Austin’s Pride and Prejudice) and Haddon Hall can be reached in under 30 minutes, as can the popular market town of Bakewell, home of the famous Bakewell Pudding. You can walk the Charlotte Brontë Literature Trail, taking in the aforementioned North Lees Manor, visit the oversized grave of Robin Hood’s sidekick, Little John, or go fishing on Ladybower Reservoir just two miles away in Bamford. The beautiful Hope Valley scenery and honeypot village of Castleton is just a 10-minute drive, and the cities of Sheffield and Manchester can be reached on a direct train from Hathersage train station. For thrill seekers, Alton Towers can be reached in around an hour’s drive.

What a fantastic house, has every piece of equipment you could want. Beds comfortable. The driveway, mentioned in some reviews, didn't cause us any issues and we had 3 cars, plenty of space just turning that's a little tight but easy enough. Very central location with great gardens for dogs or sitting in the sun having breakfast/dinner. Great communication from owner. Area has lots of great walks without needing car. Great pubs; we ate at Bankhouse for Sunday lunch well worth trying. Cakes, fruit and veg, One Stop, garage shop, Indian, chemist all within 5 mins walk.
