Surrounded by spectacular countryside and panoramic views in all directions, The Barn at Grislow Field can be found in an unrivalled location bordering the villages of Curbar and Baslow, within the heart of The Peak District National Park. Adjacent to a former farmhouse and close to the owner’s stables on a working farm, the property enjoys a rural outlook and is secluded yet centrally located for everything the Peak District has to offer.

For outdoor enthusiasts, walks can be taken direct from the door, with a network of footpaths crossing the owner’s land, or for those wanting a peaceful break you can cosy up in front of the wood burning stove, taking in the remarkable scenery through the French windows.

Curbar is a popular and sought after village with a collection of sunken Peak District millstones in the centre, and has a pub, café and art gallery making it a wonderful base for walks, climbing and mountain biking. Baslow and its triple-arched river bridge is a large village, offering a range of village amenities including a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants, even a Michelin star one too!

Nearby is historic Chatsworth House, with its opulent interiors and extensive gardens and parkland. The popular market town of Bakewell can be reached in just 10 minutes, and the towns of Matlock and Buxton are around half an hour away. The pretty Hope Valley villages and their range of attractions such as Hathersage, 10 minutes, with its open air swimming pool and the ever popular honeypot villages of Castleton and Edale, home to the start of the Pennine Way are all easily accessible. Sheffield and Chesterfield can both be reached in around half an hour and the UK’s premier theme park, Alton Towers, is around an hour away.

Absolutely beautiful place. Cannot believe it’s also dog friendly, everything you could need and more! Home baked bread and goodies on arrival, warm, welcoming and a real home from home. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Lovely spacious cottage for the 2 of us + Biffy the cocker spaniel. Lots of pubs within walking distance but the lane up to the cottage feels a bit steep after you’ve walked all day! Walks start immediate outside the back door, amazing views from the walks above. We thought it was really good that we could help ourselves to the log store for the log burner. Fizz is a lovely, friendly host and neighbour, we would definitely return and have already recommended.

This is our 5th visit to The Barn. It is just our favourite place. A real home from home, peaceful and quiet with amazing views. Great dog friendly pubs within walking distance and superb walks right on the doorstep. Cannot fault the property or the fantastic hosts. Fizz and Ross always make us welcome and our dog loves a good play with the owners dogs 😊 Thoroughly recommend 5 star accommodation

We loved our stay at The Barn, Grislow Field. The view from the rear outside terrace is stunning...beautiful fields, and hills with delightful dry stone walls, and the stunning local escarpment in the background. The barn was well furnished, with lovely comfortable beds, and everything you might need when away from home. We loved the welcome pack left by Fizz the owner....including a freshly baked loaf, with butter and milk in the fridge....The two bathrooms are spacious and modern with lovely showers. Neither are en-suite which was a bit disappointing but not of major concern. It was a real novelty having the owners 3 horses stabled adjacent to the barn - they were very friendly, and we often found them leaning over the wall from their paddock eating the grass in the garden! In my opinion, I’d say a car is essential if staying here, as the accommodation is off a main road, and up a fairly long track. We regularly stay in holiday cottages up and down the country, and felt that The Barn at Grislow Field was up there with the best! Highly recommended.

We stayed at the cottage with my parents & we all had a lovely time, despite the miserable weather! We still managed to climb up those monster hills & could see right across to the Chatsworth estate. Fizz gave us a very warm welcome & the cottage had everything & more you could wish for, for a home from home stay. A lovely little welcome package of fresh bread & a bottle of prosecco was much appreciated. The local area is stunning with plenty of local cafes & pubs for some delicious food & drinks. We would love to come back again if you could guarantee some sunshine!

Absolutely beautiful location - stunning views over the countryside. The owner was friendly and helpful. Great base for Chatsworth, Bakewell and Buxton. Very comfy beds. Only critique was that the floors could have been cleaner. Lovely friendly animals. Highly recommend a stay here.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; I'm horrified to read this as we generally hoover and steam mop the floors at every changeover, so they really should be thoroughly clean before every guest arrives. I can only apologise if I have failed to meet my own high standards, but would hate to think that readers would think this typical, as it definitely isn't.

A beautiful and very well equipped cottage. Amongst the best we have stayed in. Stunning views of the local scenery from the door with walks on the doorstep. So many thoughtful extras provided for our arrival, delicious home made bread, a bottle of prosecco, tea, coffee, milk and butter. Fizz really does think about her guests needs. Very entertaining visits by Squiggles the most dog like cat we have ever met. I am sure we will return.
