The indoor, heated exercise pool complete with jet system, sauna and wellness facilities has doors opening up onto the beautiful rear garden. The living/dining room has amazing windows which overlook the beautifully kept gardens and the distant view. Guests will find some great features including an open fireplace with an original surround and hearth as well as a large dining table, ideal for family meals and celebrations. There is even a record player and a docking station. The kitchen is high end, quirky and fun with multi-coloured units, excellent quality work surfaces and SMEG appliances, and overlooks the garden. On the first floor there is a second family bathroom, a double bedroom, a kingsize bedroom, another double bedroom with zip and link beds and large en-suite shower room, and the master suite with kingsize bed, dressing area and an en-suite with large shower cubicle and freestanding copper bath tub.

The Coach House is hidden away in a quiet village in County Durham yet only a couple of miles from Beamish, 11 miles from Durham, 8 miles from the Metrocentre and 10 miles from Newcastle city centre. This really is a great location for exploring the North East. Families and guests of all ages will love a trip to Beamish, the open air living museum that tells the story of life in the North East in days gone by. A full day out with plenty to see and do, with an ice rink at Christmas, year round entertainment and plenty of places to eat including one of the best fish and chip shops in the North East. The cathedral city of Durham is just a few miles further and is steeped in tradition and history. The famous cathedral and castle dominate the centre of the city along with many restaurants, bistros and cafés along the high street, and overlooking the banks of the river. The university campuses and halls of residence are dotted around the city too, making The Coach House a great location for guests with friends and family who are studying at the university.

To the east, guests will be able to visit some of the beautiful award-winning beaches of the north east coastline, including Whitley Bay and Tynemouth which is famous for its water sports facilities. The Metrocentre is only a 15-minute drive away and is a great place to visit on a rainy day for the perfect shopping experience. The centre of Newcastle for The Sage and the Laing Art Gallery is just a 20-minute drive away. For guests who enjoy concerts and cricket, the Durham County Cricket Ground is based in nearby Chester-le-Street which is around a 10-minute drive from the village. Right on the doorstep, guests who enjoy walking and cycling will find some great footpaths, cyclepaths and walking routes to explore including the very popular Coast to Coast Cycle Route which is literally just minutes from the garden. We chose the Coach House for a family get-together with members from Shropshire, Edinburgh and Durham (7 adults 1 baby). It was just right for us - warm & welcoming and set in lovely gardens that back onto a field (our 10-month old granddaughter loved to wave to the cows!). The layout meant individual party members or couples could find space to themselves when needed but the communal sitting/dining areas gave plenty of room for us to gather together in the evenings. We loved the mix of Retro/Vintage & Modern furnishings. The pool & sauna were a real treat and our adult son made use of the local cycle paths. There were lots of added touches too - highchair, safety gate, welcome pack, books, games, DVDs, Netflix on the TV, wine fridge etc. :-) Lovely!

I hired this place for my wife's 70th birthday with all the family. It is a delightful property, slightly quirky, but with great facilities. It is very large so everyone has their own space, there were 10 of us staying. Loads of parking and the gardens are fabulous. Very comfortable lounge and bedrooms with a fabulous view from the master bedroom. Three of the bedrooms are en suite which is good for a large group. The kitchen is what makes it quirky. A mix of modern and ancient in the same room but with excellent appliances and a separate laundry room. There are more books here than in the National Lending Library so you will never be short of something to read. There is also a record player with a great selection of vinyl albums. The view outside is stunning and made a perfect backdrop for the professional photographer that we hired to record the event. The swimming pool kept the kids occupied for hours on end and the adults made the most of the sauna. If you want to go out and eat, you will have to drive a couple of miles but we ate in for all but one meal, the place being so comfortable and welcoming. All in all it would be difficult to find a more perfect place for a family celebration.
