Blending contemporary comfort and awash with character, this former church makes a wonderful base for a holiday.

Blending contemporary comfort and awash with character, this former church makes a wonderful base for a holiday.

The Old Church is located in the quaint hamlet of Alton, in rural Derbyshire. It is sat on the outskirts of Ashover, a previous winner of ‘Village of the Year’, which has a selection of inns and village shops. Fishing ponds, a golf course and a riding school are all within a 5 minutes’ drive. Bakewell with its lively farmers markets, boutique shops and riverside activity is only 20 minutes away.
Now a beautiful detached holiday home, this property combines original character and architectural features with contemporary living to great effect. It may still look like an old church, but don’t be deceived, inside it’s been renovated to an exquisite standard, with a keen eye for detail. The calming living room has been tastefully decorated with warm oak floors and stone feature walls. Enjoy a cosy night in, snuggled up in front of the wood burner, watch a film on the 43” Smart TV or enjoy a game on the Wii.
Step down from the well-equipped, trendy, galley-style kitchen, complete with coffee machine and breakfast bar, to the tranquil dining room. With glorious, arched windows the dining room is bathed in natural sunlight. Gather the family round the sophisticated dining table, and tuck in to a delicious homemade feast. Follow the oak floors to the bloomy hallway, where you can put your feet up, enjoy a good book and unwind.
A blissful night’s sleep is held paramount in both of the glamorous bedrooms. The master bedroom, with kingsize bed, elegant décor and sumptuous sheets, is fit for a king. The zip and link twin bedroom has been finished with comfortable furnishings, plush bedding and a stylish dressing area. Both of the bedrooms have Freesat TV’s and en-suite shower rooms fitted with contemporary furnishings and underfloor heating for extra comfort. The fabulous family bathroom with freestanding, slipper bath, and underfloor heating, is the perfect space to chill out and enjoy a glass of bubbles.
In the morning, enjoy an al fresco breakfast on the outdoor seating area. Indulge in your morning coffee whilst admiring the picturesque views of the rolling countryside and Bolsover castle.

Very well equipped - everything you could need including local maps and a lovely welcome tray. Really comfortable beds. Great wifi. Host answered all questions promptly and passed on a lot of useful local info. Good countryside location, about 30 minutes from the proper Peak District, with some nice facilities in nearby Ashover including some reasonable pubs and a great morning coffee shop / Post office. Twice a day dairy cow parade past the cottage was a treat!
